Wrestling Club: Rochelle kids compete at Stillman Valley

Junior Hubs travel north for Monroe, Wisconsin tourney

STILLMAN VALLEY — The Rochelle Wrestling Club competed in two tournament this past weekend including the Stillman Valley Beginner Tournament on Saturday, Jan. 25. Four Junior Hubs brought home titles including Daniel Johnson, Chase Marruffo, Griffin Rutledge and Brantley Koenig.

Nine RWC grapplers battled in the Tots Division including Johnson, Marruffo and Rutledge, who each went 3-0 in their respective brackets to win championships on Saturday. Nehemiah Andronic (2-1) took second in the tournament, while Isaac Vasquez placed third and four kids including Felix Belmonte, Tate Bigelow, Xander Gonzales and Elliot Huff finished fourth.

Seven Bantam Division wrestlers participated in Saturday’s championships including Koenig, who went 3-0 with two pins to earn his title. Garrett Miller (2-1) and Emilyn Voight (2-1) both placed second in their respective brackets, while Landon Johnson, Lindzi Kirk, Gavin Smith and Ezra Vasquez all finished fourth.

Isaac Bautista and Tyson Pavlak represented Rochelle in the Intermediate Division, with Bautista (2-1) taking second in his bracket and Pavlak (1-2) placing third. Jack Pavlak was the lone Senior Division grappler, going 1-3 to finish fourth in his bracket.

Monroe

Thirteen Rochelle Wrestling Club members traveled north and competed in the Gavin Breadon Memorial Youth Wrestling Tournament in Monroe, Wisconsin on Sunday, Jan. 26. Kindergarteners Phinenas Nadig and Rowen Villalobos battled for the Junior Hubs, with Nadig (2-1) taking second in his bracket and Villalobos (1-2) placing third. Garrett Miller (3-0) and Elijah Nadig (3-0) both went unbeaten in the 1st-2nd Grade Division to win titles for RWC.

Aidan Lopez (3-0) led Rochelle in the 3rd-4th Grade Division with a first-place finish in his bracket, while Zachary Johnson (1-2) finished third and Boone Alderks took fourth. Benjamin Nadig (3-0) brought home a first-place title in the 5th-6th Grade Division, with Roman Villalobos (1-2) taking third in his bracket.

Tommy Tourdot (3-0) and Xavier Villalobos (3-0) were both first-place champions in the 7th-8th Grade Division on Sunday. Joseph Nadig (2-1) placed second in his bracket, and Grant Gensler (1-2) took third.
