Wrestling: Hubs break school record with win over Freeport


Rochelle downs Pretzels 60-19 to set new mark for single-season dual victories

FREEPORT — The Rochelle Hub varsity wrestling team broke the school record for most dual victories in a single season, defeating Freeport 60-19 in nonconference action on Tuesday to eclipse the record of 22 victories set during the 1984-85 and 2015-16 seasons. The Hubs (23-1, 5-0 Interstate 8) will host another nonconference dual match with Harvard on Wednesday at 5:30 p.m.

Junior Tommy Tourdot (113) as well as freshmen Keagan Albers (106) and Deegan Schabacker (120) each received forfeits to begin the dual match against the Pretzels. Freshman Frank Nasca extended the Rochelle lead to 24-0 after recording a second-period fall against Anton Young at the 126-pound class. Sophomore Weylin Nay took a forfeit for the Hubs in the 132-pound bout.

Freeport earned its first win of the dual in the 138-pound bout, where Dayvion Fernandez outlasted junior Riley Damask for a 10-2 major decision. Freshman Brenden Voight brought the Hubs back with a second-period fall over Maddox Olsen in the 145-pound bout before sophomore Jordan Bly received a forfeit in the 152-pound bout. Sophomore Erich Metzger followed with a first-period fall against Donavyn Fernandez in the 160-pound bout.

Sophomore Matthew Lynn took a forfeit in the 170-pound bout to give Rochelle a 54-4 lead in the dual match. Freeport's Michael Tillmon notched a first-period fall over junior Mateo Hughes in the 182-pound bout before senior Jorge Driggs received a forfeit for the Hubs in the 195-pound bout.

The Pretzels won the final two contests, with Dawson Holland scoring a second-period fall over sophomore Colton Czekala in the 220-pound bout and Sami Odeh holding off sophomore Robert Stoffel for a 3-2 tiebreaker win in the 285-pound bout.
