ROCHELLE — The Rochelle varsity wrestling team hosted Ottawa on Thursday, with the Hubs falling by a score of 51-22 in Northern Illinois Big 12 Conference action to drop to 9-18 on the season. Rochelle will compete in the Marty Williams Invitational at Mahomet-Seymour this weekend.
Luke Fleming pinned Rochelle sophomore Grant Thompson at 126 pounds to open the match, and Bradley Ruger took a forfeit at 132. The Hubs scored three points when junior Keegan Davis-Carter won by 13-6 decision over Bryce Burress at 138.
Michael Morse pinned Hub freshman Osiris Lenker at 145 for the Pirates, and Thor Rick defeated Rochelle senior Jacob Fore by 7-1 decision at 152. Nick Stehl pinned Hub junior Zeke Horn at 160, but Rochelle bounced back when junior Bryan Garza won by 6-0 decision over Cedric Fairrow at 170. Sophomore Ethan Albers took a forfeit at 182 for the Hubs.
Sophomore Ben Harvey pinned Brandon O’Brien at 195, and junior Gavin Ansteth earned a 16-6 major decision over Kaedon Cronkright at 220. Jaxson Callahan pinned Hub junior Zach Capes at 285, and Austin Howard pinned Rochelle sophomore Ivan Pineda at 106. Ottawa’s Riley Hanson took a forfeit at 113, and Cole Flores pinned Hub freshman Denny Johnson at 120.
