ROCHELLE — The Rochelle varsity wrestling team hosted three nonconference opponents for a quadrangular meet Saturday morning. The Hubs went 2-1 over three matches, defeating Ottawa Marquette 40-24 and topping Rockford Jefferson 48-30 but falling 54-28 against Sandwich. Rochelle moved to 8-16 overall after the meet.
Marquette
Both teams conceited forfeits at 106 and 113 pounds, and the Hubs forfeited their 120-pound bout to Marquette’s Maclane Rinearson. Sophomore James Kopec received a forfeit at 126 for the Hubs, and freshman Ethan Tooley pinned Logan Petre in 3:49 at 132. Both teams conceited the 138-pound bout.
Marquette’s Maverick McAlpine pinned Rochelle freshman Osiris Lenker in 3:26 at 145, and Eric Donahue took a forfeit at 152 for Marquette as well. Senior Cody Hasz helped the Hubs with a 17-8 major decision over Brenton Sampson at 160, and junior Bryan Garza pinned Jake Mitchell in 2:58 at 170. Sophomore Ethan Albers added his pin over Adam Matza at 182 to keep Rochelle going.
Freshman Baxton Beaird took a forfeit at 195 for the Hubs, and although Marquette’s Hunter McAlpine pinned Rochelle senior Pedro Lopez in 2:35 at 220, junior Zach Capes stepped up by pinning Drew Jackson in 45 seconds to score six points for the Hubs.
Jefferson
Sony Ferguson pinned Rochelle sophomore Ivan Pineda in 1:27 at 106 for Jefferson, and both Masin Lighthart and Logan Costanza received forfeits at 113 and 120 to score 12 points for the J-Hawks. Rochelle sophomore Grant Thompson pinned Jefferson’s Tyler Carter in 1:08 at 126, but Jefferson’s Chakotay Keosouriya pinned Ethan Tooley in 3:58 at 132.
Both teams forfeited the 138-pound bout, and Rochelle took four consecutive forfeits at 145 (Osiris Lenker), 152 (Jacob Fore), 160 (Cody Hasz) and 170 (Bryan Garza). Sophomore Ben Harvey pinned Darren Rodgers in 3:18 at 182, and junior Gavin Ansteth pinned Jairo Carmona in 5:23 at 195.
Jefferson’s Jhoanci Carmona pinned Pedro Lopez in 1:56 at 220, with Zach Capes winning by forfeit at 285 for the Hubs.
Sandwich
Sandwich received three forfeits at 106, 113 and 120 for Evan Reilly, Cainan Haick and Tyler Schindlbeck. Aidan Linden pinned Grant Thompson in 2:51 at 126, with Braulio Flores pinning Ethan Tooley in 3:37 at 132. Cael Schindlbeck pinned Rochelle junior Keegan Davis-Carter in 5:06 at 138.
Dylan Limon and Shane Reilly took forfeits at 145 and 152 for Sandwich, and Jackson Murphy pinned Rochelle junior Zeke Horn in 3:46 at 160. Bryan Garza won by forfeit at 170, and Ben Harvey pinned Wyatt Murphy in 1:09 at 182, with Gavin Ansteth defeating Connor Holly by 12-3 major decision.
