ROCKFORD — The Rochelle wrestling program sent six grapplers to the Rockford East Freshman Invitational this past weekend. Four Hubs earned medals including Wesley Brown, who took first place in the 126-pound “B” bracket with two victories in the tournament. Brown received a first-round bye before defeating Warren Township’s Andrew Burson and Waubonsee Valley’s Shiv Shah by fall to win the title. Both pins came in less than 60 seconds.
Jaden Cook placed second in the 285-pound bracket. Cook won by fall over Warren Township’s Spencer Daniels before topping McHenry’s Shawn Rhodes and Zion-Benton’s Dexion Derion to reach the finals. Cook was pinned by Dundee-Crown’s David Reyes in the title bout.
Josey Weber finished fourth in the 113-pound bracket. Weber received a first-round bye before winning by fall over McHenry’s Camron Terry. Weber lost by fall against Waubonsee Valley’s Caleb Dowd and Huntley’s Rafael Sobrepena to end the day in fourth place.
Weldon Nay took fifth place in the 113-pound bracket. Nay received a first-round bye before falling by 12-4 major decision against Warren Township’s Zach Piskiewicz. Nay rebounded by pinning Grayslake Central’s Simon Kulagowski and earning an 8-2 decision over Johnsburg’s Colton Jargstorf-Benbenek before winning by fall against McHenry’s Blake Olson for fifth place.
