ROCHELLE — Jacie Wyatt entered the 2017 varsity volleyball season as Rochelle’s starting setter, but when injuries hurt the Lady Hubs toward the end of their schedule, the senior had no trouble moving to the front line.

Wyatt split time at both setter and right side early in the season, but when senior teammate Morgan Knight went down with an injury, head coach John Pfaff moved Wyatt to middle hitter. The senior adjusted well to her new position, recording 77 kills and 22 blocks to finish second on her team in both categories.

Her efforts were also enough to be rewarded with First-Team All-Conference honors for the second consecutive season.

“It’s good to know that other coaches are seeing the hard work I’ve put in,” Wyatt said. “It’s a great honor.”

Wyatt led the Lady Hubs in assists last season, and the senior totaled a team-high 136 this year while adding 20 aces and a third-best 65 digs. While she set for most of her high school volleyball career, Wyatt said she had no issue changing positions to help her team win.

“It was definitely a new experience,” she said. “It was fun to try those new positions… Overall it was a good experience. I’m definitely going to miss the teamwork and everything about the program. I liked getting to know the girls and playing with them.”

Wyatt was the only Lady Hub to make the All-Conference First Team this season. Junior libero Sarah Craven received an All-Conference Honorable Mention. Wyatt is among seven seniors graduating from this year’s group, and she encouraged Rochelle’s younger players to continue working hard.

“Just work hard and have fun,” she said. “I think that’s all we can ask for them to do.”
