DEKALB — The Lady Hubs track and field team gave Rochelle fans a glimpse of the future Monday evening when the girls traveled to DeKalb High School for a four-team meet with Kaneland and West Aurora.

Several underclassmen set personal records on the day including freshmen Angie Saldana and Carolina Lara, with Saldana running a personal-best time of 14.99 seconds in the 100-meter dash and Lara clocking in at 36.45 in the 200-meter dash to beat her seed time by 1.58 seconds. Freshman Cristina Alfano finished sixth in the shot put with a personal-best heave of 30-6, and sophomore Abby Tilton took third in the 300-meter hurdles with a PR of 51.48.

Junior Jacie Wyatt tied her seed time of 26.60 in the 200-meter dash to win the event, while fellow junior Cesca Vardman surpassed her seed time to take second with a time of 26.83. Five Lady Hubs landed in the top 6 spots in the event, with junior Morgan Knight (27.80) placing fourth, freshman Macey Ryan (27.93) taking fifth and junior Morgan Baker (27.98) landing in sixth.

Sophomore Cam Turner recorded Rochelle’s best time in the 400-meter dash (1:08.32), and sophomore Katherine Bakken turned in another strong performance in the 1600-meter run, placing third with a time of 5:44.44. Freshman Britney Baez also earned a third-best finish, running a time of 14:04.68 in the 3200-meter run.

In the 100-meter hurdles, sophomore Cheyene Watson edged out Tilton for third place, running a time of 18.78 to Tilton’s fourth-best time of 18.97. Vardman, Wyatt, Knight and Ryan teamed up to win the 400-meter relay with a time of 51.07, and the girls swapped out Ryan for Baker to take the 800-meter relay with a time of 1:47.34.

Junior Lexi Bialas put together a personal-best performance in the pole vault, clearance 7-6 to place sixth overall. Sophomore Grace Garcia took eighth in the long jump (12-10), and freshman Katie Van Hise (12-9 ½) landed less than an inch behind Garcia for ninth place. Three Rochelle girls landed in the top 10 in both the discus and the shot put, with freshman Gabby Harding placing seventh in the shot put (29-5) and freshman Breanna Heisner landed in ninth (27-3).

Alfano and Harding earned the No. 4 and No. 5 spots in the discus with respective throws of 80-2 and 73-9, with freshman Grace Valentine finishing ninth with a mark of 64-8.
