ROCHELLE — Hundreds of track and field athletes gathered at Rochelle Township High School Saturday morning for the 40th Annual Rochelle Area Track Club Invitational.

Field events began at 9 a.m., with running events kicking off at 9:30 a.m. Several track clubs from around the area attended Saturday’s event including the Rock Island Striders, the Warrior Athletic Track Club, the Central Illinois Track Team and the DuPage Track Club.

6-8 Girls

Leiya Smith placed first in the 100-meter dash with a time of 17.83 seconds, and Smith took second in the long jump with a leap of 9-6. Anya Anaya edged out Rock Island’s Jordyn Randle for first in the 400-meter dash, clocking in at 1:32.10 to Randle’s 1:32.20.

Maggie Louis finished fourth in the 400-meter dash with a time of 1:47.16, with Elena Daugherty taking sixth at 2:01.68. Josie Slattengren placed seventh in the long jump with a mark of 4-4, and Naomi Arredondo’s leap of 4-3 earned her eighth place.

Martha Landa recorded a throw of 5.4 meters in the javelin throw, and Landa’s leap of 6-2 in the long jump put her in sixth place. The 400-meter relay group of Anaya, Arredondo, Landa and Smith ran a time of 1:30.15.

6-8 Boys

Grant Daugherty defeated Luke Wingler of Center Grove for first place in the shot put with a heave of 13-9, while Ezekiel Bergeson and Isaiah Bergeson finished eighth and ninth in the long jump with respective leaps of 5-3 ½ and 4-1. Boone Alderks recorded Rochelle’s top time in the 100-meter dash at 19.31.

Ezekiel and Isaiah Bergeson took third and fourth place in the 400-meter dash with respective times of 1:49.23 and 2:30.94, and Alderks ran a 41.55 in the 200-meter dash for sixth place.

9-10 Girls

Anna Blanton and Madigan Williams recorded Rochelle’s top marks in the long jump, with Blanton leaping 8-8 for sixth place and Williams jumping 8-5 for seventh place. Williams was the lone participant in the shot put, winning with a heave of 12-8 ½.

Blanton and Ava Horner turned in a photo finish in the 100-meter dash, with Blanton running an 18-second race for sixth place and Horner clocking in at 18.04 for seventh place. Jasmine Walsh represented Rochelle in the 400-meter dash, finishing third with a time of 1:43.91.

Horner, Blanton, Laila Vasquez and Brisa Zepeda joined forces in the 400-meter relay, running a time of 1:19.48. Horner’s time of 39.96 in the 200-meter dash earned her sixth place, with Blanton taking seventh in 43.62.

9-10 Boys

Caleb Dreska and Zackary Dreska finished third and fourth in the long jump with respective leaps of 10 feet and 9-7, while Riley Vondergathen cleared 3-6 in the high jump. Zackary Dreska won the javelin throw, finishing first out of five competitors with a toss of 20.44 meters.

Caleb Dreska placed third in both the 100-meter dash (14.85) and the 200-meter dash (34.44), while Jack Tilton took eighth in the 100-meter dash with a time of 16.70. The Dreska boys teamed up with Tilton and Grant Daugherty to run the 400-meter relay, completing the race in a time of 1:16.81.

11-12 Girls

Betty Flores recorded Rochelle’s best leap in the long jump at 9-10, with Zoe White taking seventh (8-2) and Simone House (7-7 ½) finishing ninth. Lauren Turner was the lone athlete in the shot put, recording a heave of 22-9 for first place.

Elise Horner took fifth in the 100-meter dash with a time of 16.32, while Cadence Scott (17.40) placed eighth. Turner (3:08.57) and Kylie Smith (3:10.00) finished second and third, respectively, in the 800-meter run, with Smith (1:23.31) edging out Turner (1:26.03) for third in the 400-meter dash, bumping Turner down to fourth.

Scott took third in the 200-meter dash with a time of 39.63.

11-12 Boys

Parker Lenkaitis leapt 9-4 ½ in the long jump to place 10th, while Gavin Pennington finished sixth in the 100-meter dash with a time of 15.75. Lenkaitis landed in ninth with a time of 16.23, with Pennington taking third in the 400-meter dash with a time of 1:15.67.

13-14 Girls

Anna Harvey’s leap of 13 feet earned her third place in the long jump, while Bailey Sutton’s mark of 11-6 landed her in seventh place. Harvey also placed first as the lone pole vaulter with a 7-foot clearance. Morgan Haas placed fifth in the shot put with a 25-foot heave, and Haas took fourth in the discus throw (60-9) and first as the lone competitor in the javelin throw (12.21 meters).

Harvey placed eighth in the 100-meter dash with a time of 14.78 and second in the 400-meter dash with a time of 1:11.84. Sarah Tunink took fourth with a time of 1:14.13, and the mixed 400-meter relay group of Tunink, Lauren Akey, Emily Garcia and Beanna Deutsch ran a time of 1:05.83.

Garcia represented Rochelle in the 1500-meter run, clocking in at 8:13.41 for sixth place. Tunink’s time of 32.75 in the 200-meter dash earned her 11th place, while Deutsch placed 12th in 34.25 and Akey took 13th in 35.54. The mixed 1600-meter relay group of Kylie Smith, Tunink, Deutsch and Harvey ran a time of 5:21.08.

13-14 Boys

Eric Briseno’s clearance of 4-9 earned him second place in the high jump, with Luke Orlikowski (4-3) taking third. David Wanner won the javelin throw with a mark of 20.56 meters, while Orlikowski took second at 13.72 meters. Wanner also competed in the 3000-meter run, clocking in at 12:29.03 for second place.

Briseno finished seventh in the 100-meter dash with a time of 13.42, while Wanner took fifth in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:52.99. Josue Huerta took fifth in the 400-meter dash with a time of 1:10.39, with Orlikowski (1:11.67) placing sixth. The mixed 400-meter relay group of Huerta, Orlikowski, Avery Auld and Abel Huerta ran a time of 1:10.74.

15-16 Results

Emma Smith was one of two girls to clear 4 feet in the high jump. Aaron Vondergathen and Zack Akey took second and third in the pole vault, with Vondergathen clearing 9 feet and Akey surpassing 8 feet.

Akey placed 12th in the 100-meter dash with a time of 13.25, while William Eckles ran a 2:27.33 as the lone racer in the 800-meter run. Akey’s time of 1:00.96 put him in third place in the 400-meter dash, and Eckles’ time of 5:37.39 earned him second in the 1500-meter run. Akey ended his day by placing seventh in the 200-meter dash with a time of 27.04.

17-18 Results

Alexis Crawford cleared 4-6 in the high jump for second place. Crawford was the only competitor representing Rochelle in the 17-18 category.

19-34 Results

Anna Day’s heave of 6.27 meters earned her first place in the javelin throw. Day was the only Rochelle athlete competing in the 19-34 division.
