ROCHELLE — There was plenty of hardware to go around for the Rochelle Wrestling Club at the Pete Fader Folkstyle Frenzy this past Sunday at Rochelle Township High School.
Competitors at five different divisions (tots, bantam, intermediate, novice and senior) took to the mats on Sunday, with 13 Rochelle athletes standing atop the podium by the end of the day. Wrestlers from all over the area journeyed to RTHS for the event including participants from Harlem, Marengo, Stillman Valley and more.
Tots
Steel Manning, Tyson Pavlak and Damion Anders each took home first place in the tots division (ages 6 and under), with the three boys combining to go 6-0 with three decisions, two wins by fall and one by major decision. Maddex Jackson and Jace Spears finished second at their respective levels, while Noah Moore also placed second and Teddy Millard and Logan Brandt finished third. Quentin Ansteth and Reed Dougherty brought home two fourth-place finishes.
Bantam
Six Rochelle wrestlers placed first in the bantam division (ages 6-8) including Aiden Lopez, Josh Cruz, Nathan Manos, Colten Manning, Brody Bruns and Roman Villalobos. The kids teamed up for 12 victories in the competition without surrendering a single loss. Daniel Rangel took home second along with Tyler Gensler and Bobby Tourdot, while Zachary Johnson, Braxton Bruns, Ty Horn, Deegan Schabacker, Brandin Kirk and Ayden Wooten placed third. Connor Lewis and Boone Alderks both landed in fourth place.
Intermediate
Xavier Villalobos went 3-0 in the intermediate division (ages 8-10) to finish first with two victorties by fall and one by decision. Quentin Berry and Erich Metzger each placed first as well, with Rhett Watson, Eli Koonce, Brandyn Metzger and Kaiden Morris all landing in second place at their respective weights. Grant Gensler took third place for the Rochelle intermediates, while Brandt Waters and Tommy Tourdot finished fifth and Jack Pavlak placed sixth. Adaleiah Villalobos and Carson Lewis also took to the mats for the RWC but did not place.
Novice
Three competitors from Rochelle took the floor in the novice division (ages 10-12), with Brock Metzger finishing second at his weight, Zack Helser placing fourth and Garrett Gensler taking fifth. The boys combined to win three matches on the day, with two coming from Metzger by fall.
Senior
Ben Harvey continued his rampage at the senior division (ages 12-14), winning three straight matches to claim first at his weight with two victories by fall. Grant Thompson and Keith Holland each placed sixth for the RWC.
