On Thursday, Nov. 7, the Rochelle Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution presented a flag that has been flown over Constitution Hall in Washington D.C. to the Flagg Township Museum in Rochelle. 

On Thursday, Nov. 7, the City of Rochelle presented a facade grant check for $5,000 to the owners of the Best Building at 1201 S. 7th St. in Rochelle. 

Rochelle United Methodist Church will celebrate 180 years in Rochelle on Sunday, Nov. 10. It was the first organized church in Rochelle in 1844 and held services in log cabins and a railroad car in its early days. 

At its monthly meeting Wednesday, the Creston Village Board of Trustees heard an update from Village Building Inspector Casper Manheim on the building of new homes that is taking place in the Creston Commons subdivision.

During the General Election Nov. 5, Ogle County saw a 76.6 percent voter turnout with 25,933 ballots cast out of 33,870 total voters. 

On Saturday, a grand opening and ribbon cutting were held for CheeseKake Ko. at its new storefront location at 906 Main St. in Ashton.

There were no injuries to residents or first responders after a fire at an apartment building on 2nd Avenue in Rochelle on Sunday morning, Rochelle Fire Chief Dave Sawlsville said. 

On Saturday, Oct. 26, Habitat for Humanity of Ogle County hosted a groundbreaking ceremony for its next new home build at 117 Prairie Moon Drive in Davis Junction. 

At its meeting Monday, the Rochelle City Council held discussion on its 2024 tax levy.

At its Oct. 28 meeting, the Rochelle City Council unanimously approved the creation of a new Eastern Gateway TIF (tax increment financing) district, which includes the Caron Ridge Shopping Center (the former site of Sullivan's Foods), and farmland east of the center to Dement Road. The Eastern Gateway TIF consists of approximately 82 acres and 10 parcels.

At its Sept. 23 meeting, the Rochelle city council unanimously approved a resolution to extend its co-ownership agreement of Fairways Golf Course with the Flagg-Rochelle Community Park District for five years with another five-year extension that will take place at the end of the agreement unless either entity declines. 

At its Oct. 15 meeting, the Rochelle city council unanimously approved two design contracts for utility work related to the state's future improvements to Illinois Route 251 on the north side of town. 

At its Sept. 23 meeting, the Rochelle City Council unanimously approved an ordinance authorizing the creation of a housing incentive program to encourage future housing growth.

Ruth Carter serves as HOPE of Ogle County’s executive director and will be retiring this year. She’s been with the non-profit organization that helps survivors of domestic abuse since 1991. She started as a counselor before becoming executive director in 2009. 

The Vince Carney Community Theatre’s upcoming show, “Dyin’ for a Drink” will be on stage at the Lincoln Arts Center on Friday, Nov. 8 & 15, Saturday, Nov. 9 & 16, and Sunday, Nov. 10. Tickets can be purchased online for $20 at http://www.vcctrochelle.org/ 

On Wednesday, Oct. 23, the City of Rochelle presented a facade grant check for $5,000 to ALM Fine Cabinetry at 314 N. 6th St. in Rochelle. 

October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month, and HOPE of Ogle County, a non-profit organization that helps survivors of domestic abuse, is working with local organizations and businesses this month on a social media pledge initiative. 

At its monthly meeting Monday, the Flagg-Rochelle Community Park District Board of Commissioners unanimously approved a special use permit for Lincoln Highway Heritage Festival to be held at Atwood and Cooper Parks in August 2025. 

At its monthly meeting Monday, the Rochelle Township High School District Board of Education heard an update from Superintendent Jason Harper on current district enrollment numbers.

Jim Moorehead of Rochelle served the United States Navy during World War II from 1942-1944. He was assigned as a diesel mechanic to the submarine U.S.S. Bluefish S.S. 222. Moorehead passed away in January 2021 at the age of 100. 

A Rochelle Fire Department firefighter has been released from Rochelle Community Hospital and is “home doing fine” after suffering an injury Sunday when he was struck by farm equipment while fighting a field fire southwest of Rochelle, RFD Chief Dave Sawlsville said. 

No structures or standing corn was damaged after a 100-acre field fire was seen in Esmond late Friday morning, Rochelle Fire Department Firefighter/Paramedic Curt Helgren said. 

On Thursday, Oct. 17, a grand opening and ribbon cutting ceremony were held for Farmers Insurance Lassiter Agency at 1220 Currency Court in Rochelle. The business offers auto, home, renter’s and business insurance and more.

At its meeting Tuesday, the Rochelle City Council unanimously approved two design contracts for utility work related to the state's future reconstruction and widening of Illinois Route 251 on the north side of town that’s planned for the coming years.
