Spring Lake Pool recognizes senior lifeguards

Football: Hubs changing course with offseason program

Volleyball: VanVickle returns to Lady Hubs in coaching role

Ali VanVickle spent her entire high school career with the Rochelle volleyball program, working her way up to the varsity team and becoming the top offensive weapon at the outside hitter position. VanVickle has since returned to the Lady Hubs as a volleyball coach, and her recent experience as a student-athlete has helped grow Rochelle’s up-and-coming players.

Rochelle Football Parent Group offering Hub stencils

Driveway Hub stencils have been found around Rochelle since the early 2000s. That nearly two-decades-long tradition won’t be stopping anytime soon, as the Rochelle Football Parent Group will once again be providing stencils for local families this summer.

Boys Track: Vondergathen aiming to reach new heights

Although the coronavirus pandemic has taken away Vondergathen’s senior season, the RTHS vaulting standout has committed to becoming a new member of the Flying Dragons Pole Vault Club in Normal. Vondergathen, who will be attending Illinois Valley Community College to study computer-aided drafting and design, said he learned about the club during his junior season.

Although student-athletes in spring sports are unable to compete this season, the Rochelle Township High School Athletic Booster Club has teamed up with BEE Designs to give graduating seniors a special gift in recognition of their achievements as Hubs.

Interstate 8 Conference honors spring student-athletes

The Interstate 8 Conference has recognized all senior student-athletes as All-Conference honorees this spring season. In a press release Friday afternoon, the conference detailed that the decision was made to recognize the seniors who lost their final spring seasons to the coronavirus pandemic.

Jandak family donates special gift to RTHS athletics

The Rochelle Township High School football program has a long-standing tradition where Hub players ring the bell at the north end of the field after every home win to celebrate their victory with the community. RTHS standouts William and Charlie Jandak took part in this tradition many times during their high school football careers, and through the generosity of their family, that tradition will be carried over from the gridiron to the weight room.

Baseball: Scorching start highlights Wanner's senior season with Washburn University

Mark Wanner was on the road with his Washburn University teammates when the former Rochelle Township High School baseball standout heard the unfortunate news that his final collegiate season was canceled because of the coronavirus pandemic.
