Wrestling: Villalobos, Harvey qualify for IHSA State Championships

Juniors Gavin Ansteth (26-15 at 195), Zeke Horn (18-24 at 160) and Keegan Davis-Carter (18-22 at 132) also represented Rochelle in the sectional tournament. Ansteth lost by 7-3 decision to Coal City’s Cole Garcia before winning one wrestleback over Sycamore’s Jaden Johns by 14-4 major decision. Ansteth then fell by 5-0 decision to Morton’s Alex Ford. Both Horn and Davis-Carter went winless at the tournament.

Boys Bowling: Shank signs with Rock Valley College

Shank was one of five high school bowlers to sign his letter with Rock Valley College on Thursday. After playing as a club team for many years, the Golden Eagles officially became an NJCAA intercollegiate bowling program this past year. Shank said he’s looking forward to playing the sport he loves at the next level.

Girls Bowling: Rochelle finishes ninth at NIB-12 Championship

The Rochelle varsity girls bowling team battled in the Northern Illinois Big 12 Conference Championship at Mardi Gras Lanes on Friday. The Lady Hubs placed ninth out of 10 schools with a final score of 4,480 and freshman Alyssa Mickley recorded a team-high series of 923 pins over six games to take 31st out of 61 total players.

Football: Hart commits to North Central College

North Central College has fielded arguably the most competitive Division III football program in the state of Illinois over the last several years. The Cardinals have reached the playoffs seven times over the last nine seasons while regularly finishing atop or near the top of the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin standings.
