Golf: Ohlinger earns Interstate 8 First Team honors

Rochelle senior Griffin Ohlinger entered Monday’s Interstate 8 Conference Championship at Mendota Golf Club having earned All-Conference Honorable Mentions over each of his last two seasons. While Ohlinger admitted his season fell short of his goals, his efforts throughout the fall allowed him to secure First-Team All-Conference honors for the first time.

Rochelle senior Thomas Koziol always looks forward to competing at the Genoa-Kingston Matt Walter Invitational. Running one of his favorite 3-mile courses, Koziol turned in his fastest time of the season on Tuesday, when the Rochelle Hub varsity cross country team earned a fourth-place trophy finish while two Lady Hub runners medaled.

Football: JV Hubs secure road win over Sycamore

The Rochelle Hub JV football team faced Sycamore in an Interstate 8/Kishwaukee River Conference crossover matchup on Monday, winning 22-14 and improving to 5-0 on the season. Freshmen Roman Villalobos and Brode Metzger each rushed for touchdowns, while sophomore Ryan Senne compiled six tackles for loss and four sacks.

Volleyball: Morris survives three-set battle with Rochelle

The Interstate 8 Conference schedule has provided several tough matchups for the Rochelle Lady Hub varsity volleyball team this season. After Rochelle earned a hard-fought three-set win over LaSalle-Peru on Tuesday, the Lady Hubs returned home and again found themselves locked in a third-set tiebreaker battle, this time against the Morris Redskins.

New scoreboard coming to RTHS football stadium

Rochelle Township High School will be installing a new scoreboard for the football field at the Douglas A. Creason Athletic Complex. RTHS athletic director Richard Harvey said the school is hoping to have the new scoreboard operational for the spring season. No determination has been made yet as to when the current scoreboard will be taken down.

    Junior Luis Hernandez and senior Yuelma Ortiz earned medals to lead the Rochelle Hub and Lady Hub varsity cross country teams at the Freeport Invitational on Saturday.     The Rochelle Lady Hub varsity volleyball team competed at the Sterling Invitational on Saturday, finishing 2-3 over five matches. Rochelle (14-11-3, 5-3 Interstate 8) took second in the pool round, defeating Fulton 25-20, 25-14 before falling 21-25, 18-25 against Rockford Lutheran.

Sophomore forward Alberto Casillas scored the lone goal for the Hubs (8-7, 4-2 Interstate 8), who will face LaSalle-Peru on Saturday in the third-place match.

  • Volleyball: Lady Hubs mount comeback at Belvidere

    The Rochelle Lady Hub varsity volleyball team faced Belvidere on Monday for the first of three road matches this week. Sophomore Taelynn Rodeghero led the offense with 15 kills as the Lady Hubs erased a first-set deficit and outlasted the Bucs 23-25, 25-15, 25-22.

    The Rochelle Lady Hub varsity tennis team faced LaSalle-Peru on the road for an Interstate 8 Conference match Tuesday evening. Senior Abby Tarvestad emerged victorious at the No. 2 singles court, defeating Rylee Waite 6-2, 6-1 as the Cavaliers took down the Lady Hubs in the match 4-1.

  • Cross Country: Hernandez sets new PR at Larry Eddingtion Invitational

    The Rochelle Hub and Lady Hub varsity cross country teams raced in the Larry Eddington Invitational at Kaneland High School on Saturday. Junior Luis Hernandez led the Hubs in the varsity race, finishing 44th out of 149 runners with a time of 17:02.4.
