Dance: Rochelle qualifies for IHSA State Championships

Lady Hub senior Tatianna Contreras wasn’t expecting to hear Rochelle’s name called when she and her teammates awaited the final results of the IHSA Competitive Dance Sectional at Huntley High School this past weekend. But when the final scores were tabulated and Rochelle was announced as a top-6 state qualifier for Class 1A, Contreras cried tears of joy.

Ben Harvey’s spectacular sophomore wrestling season continued at Mahomet-Seymour’s Marty Williams Invitational on Monday, when the Hub standout won all five of his matches, four of them by fall, to claim his first-ever tournament title in the 182-pound weight division.

Kaleb Ackland describes himself as an all-around basketball player who aggressively rebounds around the rim, guards on the perimeter and shares the ball with his teammates. The senior can also space the floor, and he’s knocking down almost 40 percent of his 3-point shots this winter.

The Reapers were unable to stop the Hub offense at any point, and for the third straight game, Rochelle put over 70 points on the scoreboard. Behind a game-high 30 points from Beck, the Hubs dominated Plano by a score of 88-76 to improve to 7-10 overall and extend their winning streak to three games.

Feature: Kerns sisters back on the court
