The combination of nerves, cold shooting and some tough zone defense by the Dixon Duchesses made scoring opportunities difficult for the Lady Hubs varsity basketball team when the girls battled in the IHSA Class 3A Regional Semifinals at Dixon High School on Wednesday.

Hubs basketball team locks down LaSalle-Peru

The Hubs varsity basketball team held LaSalle-Peru to just three points during the third quarter of Northern Illinois Big 12 West action Tuesday night. Rochelle’s defense has been the deciding factor in recent games, and the Hubs pressured the Cavaliers all game long during their 53-38 win over LaSalle-Peru on the road.

Latta gaining confidence and taking charge for Lady Hubs basketball team

Mya Latta didn’t feel comfortable calling for the basketball earlier this season, and the junior forward played a limited role with the Lady Hubs varsity team over its first several games. Seven members of the Rochelle varsity wrestling team won their first matches at the IHSA Class 2A Individual Sectional at Sycamore High School on Friday, and three Hubs are just one championship bracket victory away from qualifying for the IHSA State Championships next Thursday through Saturday.

Sterling stymies Lady Hubs basketball team

The Lady Hubs varsity basketball team came within one point of knocking off the Sterling Golden Warriors during their first conference matchup this season. Rochelle met Sterling for the second time on Thursday, and with the Golden Warriors looking for an emotional Senior Night victory, the white and gold overpowered Rochelle in the second half to beat the Lady Hubs 61-39 and drop the girls to 10-16 on the season.

Hubs basketball team nets win at Morris

Last season’s varsity basketball contest between Rochelle and Morris went down to the final seconds, with Johnny Beck draining a 3-point shot to help the Hubs defeat the Redskins by three points. This time around, the purple and white gained control from the tip, and the boys cruised to an easy victory over Morris by a final score of 60-39.
