Police Reports

On April 22 at approximately 11:40 a.m. deputies conducted a traffic stop on Interstate 39 near East Illinois Route 64. After an investigation, Joe Tate, 52, of Rockford, was placed under arrest for driving with a suspended Illinois driver's license. Tate was additionally cited for operating an uninsured motor vehicle. Tate was released on a notice to appear bond with a return court date.

On April 22 at 7:37 p.m. Eric L. Weller, 60, of Chicago was cited for cell phone use. He signed a promise to comply and was given a May 23 Rochelle court date.

On April 18 at approximately 7:49 p.m. deputies conducted a traffic stop on Ogle Avenue near Main Street in Mt. Morris. After a brief investigation, Kenneth A. Cline Jr., 29, of Mt. Morris, was arrested for driving with no valid license. Cline was also cited for operating an uninsured motor vehicle and an inoperable rear registration light. Cline was released at the scene on a notice to appear.

On April 17 at 4:08 p.m. Cyndy Marrufo, 24, of Rochelle was cited for speeding and improper lane usage. She signed a promise to comply and was given a May 9 Rochelle court date.

On April 15 at approximately 9:23 p.m. deputies conducted a traffic stop in the 20,000 block of East Heal Road in rural Creston.  After a brief investigation, deputies arrested Cesar Soto Piceno, 35, of Creston for no valid driver’s license.  Soto Piceno was also cited for improper lane usage.  Soto Piceno was taken to the Ogle County Jail where he was charged and released on a notice to appear with a future court date.

On April 15 at 6:06 a.m. Daniel S. Metzger, 26, of Rochelle was arrested for an Ogle County warrant and transferred.

On April 11 at approximately 6 p.m. deputies conducted a traffic stop near the intersection of North McKendrie and East 1st Street in Mt. Morris. After investigation, deputies placed Jeffery Parsons, 52, of Dixon, under arrest on a Rockford PD warrant for possession of a controlled substance. Parsons was transported to the Ogle County Jail where he is being held pending an appearance before a judge.

On April 11 at 1:44 a.m. Hayley D. Christy, 41, of Rochelle was cited for failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident, failure to give notice of an accident, and unattended vehicle. She signed a promise to comply and was given a May 9 Rochelle court date.

On April 9 at approximately 4:41 p.m. deputies responded to the intersection of Queens Road and Flagg Road in Rochelle for a check welfare on the driver of a semi-truck/trailer. After an investigation, deputies arrested David Allen Vaultonburg, 39, of Polo for driving under the influence of alcohol. Vaultonburg was transported to the Ogle County Jail and released on notice to appear with a return court date.

On April 8 at 10:23 a.m. Jennifer Stark, 39, of Rochelle was arrested for criminal damage to property. She was released on a notice to appear with a May 9 Ogle County court date.

On April 5 at approximately 5:35 a.m. deputies responded to a single-vehicle crash on Illinois Route 64 near the intersection of Kent Road in rural Rochelle. An initial investigation revealed a vehicle was traveling westbound on Illinois Route 64 when it crossed over the center line into the eastbound lane before entering the south ditch.  After entering the ditch the vehicle proceeded into the field where it overturned coming to rest on its roof.  The driver, Douglas Carr, 55, of Rochelle, was transported to the Rochelle Community Hospital where he was pronounced deceased.  The incident is still under investigation. Deputies were assisted by Hillcrest Fire/EMS, Rochelle Fire/EMS, and the Illinois State Police.

On April 4 at 10:10 p.m. Michael A. Long, 50, of Rochelle was arrested on a Rockford PD warrant and transferred.

On April 1 at 6:34 p.m. deputies were dispatched to an address in the 500 block of East 3rd Street in Leaf River for a reported domestic. After an investigation, Justin C. Craycraft, 33, of Huntley was arrested for domestic battery. Craycraft was transported to the Ogle County Jail and held pending a court appearance in front of a judge.

On April 1 at 3:15 p.m. a 17-year-old juvenile of Rochelle was cited for speeding 65 in a 40 miles per hour zone. He signed a promise to comply and was given an April 25 Rochelle court date.

On March 28 at 4:59 p.m. deputies conducted a traffic stop in the 1,000 block of East Town Line Road. As a result, deputies arrested Robert J. Lorden, 40, of Moline for driving while license suspended. Lorden was additionally issued a citation for operating an uninsured motor vehicle. Deputies also issued passenger Hanna R. Rothermel, 37, of Moline, a citation for illegal transportation/possession of alcoholic liquor by passenger in a motor vehicle. Lorden was released on a notice to appear with a future court date.

On March 27 at 8:28 p.m. Zachary Richards, 39, of Rochelle was arrested for aggravated battery with a dangerous weapon, aggravated battery in a public place, and domestic battery and transferred.

On March 25 at approximately 7:49 a.m. deputies conducted a traffic stop in the 17,000 block of East Illinois Route 38 in Creston. After investigation, deputies placed Sara E. Hall, 57, of Rochelle under arrest for driving while license suspended. Hall was also cited for no insurance. Hall was released on a notice to appear pending a future court date.

On March 23 at 3:47 p.m. Robert D. Butler, 24, of Rockford was cited for leaving the scene, failure to give information/render aid, and no insurance. He signed a promise to comply and was given an April 25 Rochelle court date.

On March 21 at approximately 4:29 p.m. deputies were advised of a black Ford Focus driving all over North Illinois Route 26 south of Forreston. They then learned the Ford struck a mailbox in the 3,000 block of North Illinois Route 26 before coming to a stop in the ditch. After an investigation, it was learned that the female driver was having a medical episode, which caused the crash. The driver was uninjured from the collision. The driver was transported to an area hospital for her medical issues. Deputies were assisted at the scene by Polo Fire and EMS and Forreston Police Department. 

On March 21 at 7:17 a.m. Michael Schmitt, 42, of Rochelle was cited for disobeying a traffic control device. He signed a promise to comply and was given an April 25 Rochelle court date.

On March 18 at 7:06 p.m. deputies conducted a traffic stop in the 13,000 block of East Illinois Route 64. After an investigation, Justin E. Johnson, 34, of Dixon was arrested for driving while license suspended, and an active Lee County warrant for failure to appear. Johnson was also issued citations for operating and uninsured motor vehicle, and no front registration. Johnson was released on a notice to appear with a return court date for the warrant, and driving while license suspended.

On March 18 at 3:07 a.m. De Mazz A. Reyes, 23, of Rochelle was cited for expired registration and no insurance. He signed a promise to comply and was given an April 25 Rochelle court date.

On March 14 at about 6:41 p.m. deputies with the assistance of the Byron Police Department, responded to an address in the 10,000 block of North Kennedy Hill Road for an attempted break in. After an investigation, deputies arrested Torrin Alanis, 20, of Poplar Grove; Kassidy Clark, 19, of Rockford; Olivia Fells, 19, of Poplar Grove; Ashton Pierce, 18, of Poplar Grove; and Caleb McKie, 23, of Clarksville, Tennessee for burglary. Alanis, Clark, Fells, and Pierce were transported to the Ogle County Jail and released with a notice to appear. McKie was additionally charged with aggravated unlawful possession of a weapon and possession of drug paraphernalia. McKie was held pending an appear before a judge.

On March 12 at 10:49 a.m. Ronald L. King, 73, of Rochelle was cited for speeding 67 in a 45 miles per hour zone. He signed a promise to comply and was given an April 4 Rochelle court date.

On March 11 at 8:59 p.m. deputies conducted a traffic stop in the 2,000 block of North Illinois Route 2. After a brief investigation, deputies arrested passenger Jeremiah J. Martin, 36, of Oregon on two Ogle County warrants (failure to appear for driving while license suspended and driving while license revoked), and a Winnebago County warrant (failure to appear for driving while license revoked). Martin was additionally charged with possession of a controlled substance. Martin was released on a notice to appear on the possession of a controlled substance charge, and lodged on the outstanding warrants in the Ogle County Jail. The driver, Debbarh N. Messenger, of Oregon was issued citations for operating a motor vehicle with registration suspended/mandatory insurance, and operating an uninsured motor vehicle.
