BELVIDERE — Alice F. McNeal, age 84, passed away on October 11, 2024 surrounded by her loving family, including her husband of 62 years, Norman McNeal.

Alice (nee Pobstman) was born on November 16, 1939 in Rochelle, IL to Harold and Frances (nee Reed) Pobstman.  She attended Catholic parochial schools in Rochelle and graduated from Rochelle Township High School in 1957.  She was a very proud registered nurse who graduated from St. Anthony’s School of Nursing in 1960.  She married the love of her life, Norman D. McNeal, on May 19, 1962 at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Rochelle, IL.

Alice was a passionate, caring registered nurse working in hospitals in Dekalb, Freeport and Belvidere for 36 years.  She retired from St. Joseph’s Hospital in Belvidere in 1996.  She and Norman moved to Belvidere in 1974 where they raised their four daughters and were members of St. James Catholic Church.   Alice’s passion was always her family including not only her husband and daughters but also, sisters, brothers, in-laws, nieces, nephews, cousins and beyond.  She and her husband Norman welcomed many friends into their lives.  Aunt Alice will be missed by many.

Alice was pre-deceased by her parents, Harold and Frances Pobstman, brothers Mahlon Meling and Charles Pobstman and sisters Mary Louise Dall’Osto and Elizabeth Pobstman.

She is survived by her husband of 62 years, Norman D. McNeal of Belvidere; her sister Barbara Herrmann of Madisonville, KY; her daughters and sons-in-law Catherine (Eric) Jacobson of Brookfield, WI, Patricia (Brian) Fuller of Belvidere, IL, Carol McNeal of Machesney Park, IL and Diane (Robert) Zimmerman of Belvidere, IL; her grandchildren Robert (Lexi) Zimmerman of Belvidere, IL, Alison (Adam) Wolf of Belvidere, IL, Haley (Chace) Cameneti of North Point, FL, Bradley Fuller of Rockford, IL, Megan Fuller of Belvidere, IL, Claire Jacobson of Chicago, IL, Emily Jacobson of Chicago, IL, Kevin Jacobson of Madison, WI and Megan Nielson of Tampa, FL; nine great grandchildren; and her special friend Mary Collins.

A visitation will be held at Anderson Funeral and Cremation Services, 218 W. Hurlbut Avenue, Belvidere, IL on October 22 from 5-7 pm.  A funeral mass will be held at St. James Catholic Church, 402 Church Street, Belvidere, IL on October 23 at 11am.  A luncheon will be held immediately following the mass.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial gifts be made to support the Alice F. Nursing Scholarship Fund at the Froedtert Hospital Foundation, Attn: Office of Institutional Advancement, P.O. Box 26509, Milwaukee, WI 53226.  Gifts can also be made to a charity of your choice in her name.
