ROCHELLE — Allen L. Monson, 82, passed away Thursday, May 30, 2019 at Rochelle Gardens in Rochelle. Al was born on April 30, 1937 in Red Top, Minnesota, the son of Stewart and Claribel (Greeley) Monson.
Al was a 1953 graduate of Rochelle Township High School. He was a member of Faith Lutheran Church. He ran his own masonry business in the Rochelle area for over 20 years. He later became a member of the Local 6 BAC.
Al enjoyed being a hobby farmer, raising livestock including horses, goats, chicken and cattle. After he retired, Al moved to Missouri, where he continued to raise cattle and enjoyed country western dancing.
Al is survived by two children, Randy (Diane) Monson of Rochelle and Linda (David) Kellogg of Rockford; two grandchildren, Jeff (Brooke) Monson of Byron, and Angela (Robert) Spartz of Le Claire, Iowa; four great-grandchildren, Parker Magne, Rhett Monson, and Natalie and Aaron Spartz; brother, Dale (Judy) Monson of Big Rapids, Michigan; and sister, Sharon (Richard) Heinmann of Sturgeon Bay, Wisconsin.
In addition to his parents, Al is preceded in death by his brother, Lawrence Monson and sister, Audrey Greenquist.
Visitation will be from 4 to 6 p.m. on Friday, June 7 at the Unger-Horner Funeral Home, 400 N. 6th St., Rochelle. The funeral will follow at 6 p.m. with Pastor Joy Alsop officiating. Cremation care will be accorded after the service. Interment of cremated remains will be in Isle, Minnesota, at a later date.
Memorials may be made in Al’s name to Unity Hospice.
