ROCHELLE — Barry Lee Sanders, Sr., 67, passed away on Tuesday, March 25, 2025, at OSF Saint Anthony Medical Center in Rockford, Illinois, surrounded by his loved ones. Born on July 7, 1957, alongside his twin sister, Sheri, in Rochelle, IL, he was the son of Robert and Betty (Macklin) Sanders.

Barry was a man of many talents, best known as the family patriarch who could fix or build anything and never hesitated to lend a helping hand. He spent his working years as a skilled mechanic and was happily retired for the last six years—years he filled with the things he loved most: fishing, building, working on cars, watching westerns, camping with friends, and playing with his loyal furry companion Bernie. His passion for Harleys was undeniable, and he cherished every moment he was able to spend on the open road. Above all, he believed in enjoying life and sharing laughs with anyone he came in contact with.

He married his dedicated and loving wife, Jackie (Nantz) Sanders, on July 5, 2011, in Rochelle, and together they built a life full of love and laughter. He was a devoted father to his children: Brandy (Ryan) Williams, BJ (Terri Maynard) Sanders, Brent (Natalie Fransen) Sanders, and proud step dad to Christopher K. Jones, Curtis (Chrystal) Dickson, and Patricia Dickson. His love extended to his 17 grandchildren, each of whom he adored: Alexandra Sanders, Rowan Williams, Drew Sanders, Madigan Williams, Preslee Sanders, Bennett Sanders, Holden Liebhaber, Ingram Sanders, Islee Sanders, Naomi Williams, Kyler Dickson, Patrick Dickson, Ellie Dickson, Autumn Dickson, Christina Jones, Scarlet Jones, and Harper Jones. He will also be deeply missed by his surviving siblings, Sheri and Randy.

Barry was preceded in death by his parents, Robert H. Sanders Sr. and Betty Sanders; his brothers, Robert Jr. and James Sanders; and his beloved dogs, Pivot and Buddy.

He will be remembered for his infectious laughter, his ability to bring a smile to anyone’s face, and his unwavering kindness. He enjoyed spending countless hours fishing with his grandkids and passed down a wealth of knowledge, the importance of a strong work ethic, and his signature sparkly eyes to each of his children.

A special thank you is extended to Kelly Dutch, Kelly Cryer, Paul Burright, and Matt O’Rorke for always taking the time to visit or stay in touch with Barry. He deeply appreciated your friendship and support.

Barry’s legacy is one of love, laughs, generosity, and a life well-lived. His memory will forever be cherished by those who knew him.
