MORRIS — The Rochelle Hub baseball team opened its third Interstate 8 Conference series of the season Monday evening, totaling one run on four hits during a 15-1 road loss against Morris.

Senior Ethan Goodwin drove in Rochelle’s lone run of the evening, reaching on an infield single in the top of the third inning to bring home sophomore teammate Brody Bruns, who smacked a two-out double to center in the previous at-bat. But the Morris offense opened the game with four runs in the first inning before erupting for 11 runs on eight hits including a pair of home runs from Jack Wheeler, who finished with five RBIs. Morris finished with 12 hits in the series opener.

RBI singles from Brett Bounds and Colin Pfeifer sparked a four-run effort in the bottom of the first inning for Morris (13-6, 6-0 Interstate 8), who led 4-0 before its massive second inning, where Wheeler belted a two-run homer to straightaway center before blasting a three-run homer in his second at-bat of the frame. Bounds notched his second RBI single of the game during the second inning, while Mick Smith added an RBI double and Landon Norris delivered a two-run double to left field.

Trailing 15-0, Rochelle (6-10, 0-7 Interstate 8) tallied one run on Goodwin’s RBI infield single in the top of the third inning. The Hubs had an opportunity to do more damage in the top of the second inning, where sophomore Andrew Huerta reached on an error before sophomore Johnny Andrist and senior Ryan Senne drew walks to load the bases with two outs, but a flyout ended the threat.
