PLANO — The Rochelle varsity baseball team bounced back from its sweep by Sterling with a 7-2 road victory against Plano on Saturday. Senior Hayden Jones struck out 11 batters and allowing five hits in six innings on the pitcher’s mound. The Hubs improved to 14-6 overall with the nonconference win.
The Hubs scored four runs in the top of the third inning to lead the Reapers 4-0. Junior Ethan Etes and senior Andrew Johnson slapped back-to-back singles, and senior Noah Knight walked to load the bases before senior Cody Johnson reached on a dropped third strike to score Etes. Both Johnsons and Knight scored on Gavin Ansteth’s three-run double to right.
Plano cut the Rochelle lead to 4-2 with two runs on a walk and two singles in the bottom of the third inning. Senior Brandon Johnson singled and scored on Ansteth’s RBI single in the top of the fifth inning to put the Hubs ahead 5-2. Knight’s two-run single in the top of the sixth inning scored Etes and Andrew Johnson.
