ROCHELLE — The Rochelle Hubs were held to one run on six hits during the second game of their three-game Interstate 8 varsity baseball series against Sycamore on Wednesday evening.
Senior Ethan Goodwin went 2 for 2 with one double and one run scored for the Hubs, who fell to the Spartans 11-1 after conceding the series opener on Monday. Junior Gavin Neale went 1 for 2 with one single and one walk drawn for the Hubs (4-4, 0-2 Interstate 8), who will conclude their conference series against Sycamore with a road game at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday.
Rochelle scored its lone run in the bottom of the third inning, where Goodwin opened the frame with a lead-off hit before coming home on a fielder’s choice grounder from senior Brandyn Metzger. Senior Carson Lewis started on the mound, throwing two and two-thirds innings while striking out two batters.
Sophomore Johnny Andrist entered in relief and struck out two batters over one and two-thirds innings. Metzger recorded two strikeouts over two thirds of a frame.
