LASALLE — The Rochelle Hub varsity baseball team saw its losing streak reach five games on Friday, when LaSalle-Peru defeated Rochelle 8-6 to sweep the two-game Interstate 8 Conference series. The Hubs fell to 6-9 overall and 3-8 in the conference with the loss.
Senior Kyler Lara singled twice and recorded four RBIs for the Hubs, who totaled eight hits in the loss. Junior Eric Briseno went 2-for-4 with two singles, while junior Andy Buskohl finished 2-for-4 with one single, one double and one RBI. Buskohl started on the mound for Rochelle, throwing four innings and striking out three batters. Junior Josh Lloyd pitched two innings.
LaSalle-Peru led 2-1 after the first inning before scoring one run during both the second and third innings. Rochelle earned one run back in the top of the fifth inning, but the Cavaliers bounced back with a two-run bottom half to make it a 6-2 game. Rochelle rallied for two runs in the top of the seventh, but a two-run sixth from LaSalle-Peru put the Hubs out of reach.

The Rochelle fresh-soph baseball team dropped a close game against LaSalle-Peru on Friday, falling 3-1 to move to 6-4 on the season. Christian Burnette threw five innings on the mound, striking out seven batters. Bradley Cooney singled twice and scored one run for the Hubs.
