ROCHELLE — Juniors Breydan Andrews and Brandyn Metzger each recorded base hits, while senior Brock Metzger tossed three shutout innings on Monday evening, when the Rochelle Hub varsity baseball team opened an Interstate 8 Conference series against the Morris Redskins.

A scoreless game turned south in the middle innings for the Hubs, who conceded two runs in the top of the fourth inning before an eight-run rally from Morris in the top of the fifth inning sealed a 10-0 defeat for the Rochelle side. The Hubs (4-11, 0-7 Interstate 8) will continue their series against the Redskins with a road game on Wednesday and a home game on Thursday.

Metzger and Andrews sent back-to-back two-out singles up the middle in the bottom of the third inning, but a strikeout looking ended the Rochelle threat. Morris tallied two runs in the top of the fourth inning, where the Redskins took advantage of two walks and a hit batter as well as an error in the outfield. Merek Klicker and Nazim Baftiri, who reached base on a single and a hit-by-pitch, respectively, each crossed home plate to give the Redskins a 2-0 lead in the game.

Morris blew the game open with an eight-run effort in the top of the fifth inning, where the Redskins recorded four base hits while drawing five walks. The frame included an RBI double from Griffin Zweeres as well as an RBI single from Baftiri and a two-run single from Jack Wheeler. Brett Bounds also drew a bases-loaded walk to bring a run home for the Redskins.

Cody DelFavero sealed the Morris win with a two-run single in the team’s second-to-last at-bat of the frame. DelFavero threw all five innings for the Redskins, striking out 11 batters with no walks.
