DEKALB — A balanced effort from the Rochelle Hub varsity bowling team led to its first Interstate 8 Conference win of the season Monday evening, when three players averaged at least 190 pins over three games during a road matchup against the Kaneland Knights.
Senior Logan Frye rolled a 591 series to lead all players, while junior Caleb Mortensen bowled a 587 series and freshman Josef Alanis added a 580 series as the Hubs defeated Kaneland 3,241-3,108 at Mardi Gras Lanes. The Knights held a slim lead after the first game, where Kaneland edged out Rochelle 1,068-1,025 behind a series-best 244 from Nick Casey.
The Hubs (2-4, 1-1 Interstate 8) flipped the momentum in the second game, where Rochelle downed Kaneland 1,098-995 to take the series lead. Frye and Mortensen were the catalysts for the Rochelle side, with Frye shooting a 236 and Mortensen firing a 230. Alanis saves his best for last, throwing a 248 to lead all players in the third game, where Rochelle beat the Knights 1,118-1,038 to win the series. Sophomore Luke Norris rolled a 204 to total a 563 series.
