DEKALB — Senior Logan Frye rolled a 627 series to lead the Rochelle Hubs during their Interstate 8 Conference varsity bowling match against Sycamore on Monday evening.
Rylan Voyles fired a 700 series, while three other Spartans eclipsed the 600-series mark as Sycamore defeated Rochelle 3,790-3,259 at Mardi Gras Lanes. Junior Caleb Mortensen scored a 621 series, while juniors Levi Waddle and Declan McGee bowled series scores of 529 and 511 for the Hubs (2-6, 1-2 Interstate 8), who will face Ottawa at home on Tuesday evening.
Mortensen rolled a series-best 236 to lead Rochelle in the first game, which Sycamore claimed 1,277-1,011 behind 241 from Spencer Malloy and 248 from Landon Leadingham. The Spartans extended their lead with an 1,164-1,084 win in the second game, where Frye shot a 218 and Waddle added a series-best 202 on the Rochelle side. Owen Meier fired a 245 for Sycamore.
The Spartans clinched the Interstate 8 sweep with an explosive 1,349-1,164 victory in the third and final game of the series. Five Sycamore players eclipsed the 200 mark including Brian Weigle, who shot a 258 to lead all bowlers. Malloy scored a 243 and Voyles landed a 236. McGee fired a series-best 244 and Frye followed with a series-best 235 for the Hubs.
