ROCKFORD — The Rochelle Hub varsity bowling team finished third out of eight schools in the Rockford Christian Lions Invitational at Cherry Bowl on Saturday. The Hubs totaled 4,967 pins over six games, with senior Sergio Guevara shooting an 1,169 series to take seventh out of 41 bowlers in the individual standings. Senior Devansh Patel fired a 1,094 series for 11th place.

The Hubs totaled 866 in the first game, with Guevara rolling 208 while Patel added 198 and sophomore Christian Thorne scored 199. After shooting 806 in the second game, Rochelle followed with 817 in the third game behind Guevara’s 208 and junior Evin Odle’s 179.

“I thought we performed pretty well with it being our first tournament of the season,” Guevara said. “We have some experienced bowlers back this season and we have some new players who haven’t bowled in tournaments before. I thought I stayed positive throughout the tournament and I was really focused because I really wanted to place well in the tournament.”

The Hubs started slowly in the second half of the tournament, recording 779 in the fourth game before bouncing back with 830 in the fifth game and 869 in the sixth game. Guevara and Patel each shot a 223 over the last two games to finish tied for eighth in the high game standings. Thorne finished 18th overall with a 983 series, while Odle placed 19th with a 974 series.

“It was a good performance for our team, especially for our freshman and sophomore players who hadn’t had that experience before,” Patel said. “We had a good start and even though we dropped off a little, we stepped up toward the end and our energy really carried us through. I thought I did a good job finding my mark and I was much more consistent near the end.”
