ROCHELLE — All six starters for the Rochelle Hubs rolled series scores over 500 during Thursday’s Interstate 8 Conference varsity bowling match against the Sycamore Spartans.
Sophomore Luke Norris rolled a team-high 588 series for the Hubs, who conceded all three games during their 3,601-3,264 loss against Sycamore at T-Byrd Lanes. Sophomore Bryson Stewart spun a 538 series and freshman Josef Alanis bowled a 534 series for the Hubs (5-8, 3-3 Interstate 8), who will travel to the IV Super Bowl for the Cavalier Classic on Saturday.
Sycamore claimed the first game 1,186-1,130 behind a 245 from Kaiden Von Schnase and a 216 from Landon Leadingham. Junior Caleb Mortensen fired a series-best 215, while Alanis shot a series-best 204 and Stewart twirled a series-best 203 on the Rochelle side of the lanes.
The Spartans surged ahead with a 1,220-1,044 win in the second game, where Zach Ziegler threw a 224 and Leadingham followed with a 223 on the Sycamore side. Junior Declan McGee shot a series-best 196, while both Norris and Alanis rolled scores of 180 for the Hubs.
Sycamore clinched its sweep with an 1,195-1,090 victory in the third game. Norris ended the evening with a series-best 214 and Mortensen bowled a 193 to finish with a 551 series score. McGee tossed a 191 to finish with a 517 series and senior Logan Frye concluded the match with a 530 series after 172 in the final game. Rylan Voyles spun a match-best 279 to end the night with a 649 series, while Von Schnase threw a 195 to finish with a 642 series score.
