MAPLE PARK — Success at the doubles courts continues to be a major theme for the Rochelle Hubs, who took all three of their doubles matches while earning a pair of singles wins to secure their Interstate 8 Conference varsity tennis victory against Kaneland on Tuesday evening.

Juniors Mark Green and Philip Winters scored a 6-3, 6-4 win at the No. 1 court for the Hubs, who took two of their doubles matches in straight sets and overcame four singles victories from the Knights to beat Kaneland 5-4. Junior Caleb Mortensen and sophomore Sam Sergeant locked down a 6-2, 6-4 win at the No. 2 court for the Hubs (2-2, 1-1 Interstate 8), who will be back in action with a nonconference home match against Dixon at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday.

Sophomore Noah McKinney and freshman David Eckardt fought back from a tough second-set defeat to earn a 6-2, 1-6, 12-10 victory at the No. 3 doubles court. As the match transitioned to singles play, Winters emerged as one of two winners for the Hubs, scoring a 6-1, 6-4 victory at the No. 2 court. Sophomore Amor Lara picked up a critical singles point for the Hubs, outlasting his opponent in three sets to secure a 4-6, 6-4, 10-3 win out of the No. 6 slot in the lineup.

Green and Eckardt each took their singles matches to three sets, with Green falling 5-7, 6-3, 3-10 at the No. 1 court while Eckardt played a lengthy tiebreaker before coming just short in a 1-6, 6-0, 13-15 loss at the No. 5 court. Mortensen fell 4-6, 1-6 at the No. 3 court and Sergeant fell 4-6, 0-6 at the No. 4 court to round out the varsity singles lineup for the Hubs on Tuesday.
