MORRIS — The Rochelle Hubs faced a stiff challenge during their Interstate 8 Conference varsity tennis match against Morris on Tuesday evening.
Morris claimed all three doubles points before sweeping the six singles matches to hand the Hubs a 9-0 shutout loss. Rochelle (2-4, 1-2 Interstate 8) will return home for a nonconference match against Princeton at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday afternoon.
Sophomore Noah McKinney and freshman David Eckardt were the strongest competitors in doubles play, taking seven games during their 4-6, 3-6 loss against Chris Ochoa and Andrew Ochoa at the No. 3 court. Junior Caleb Mortensen and sophomore Samuel Sergeant claimed four games in their 2-6, 2-6 loss against Tristan Olvera and Hunter Lindenborn at the No. 2 court.
Juniors Mark Green and Philip Winters took the No. 1 court against Connor Barth and Connor Ahearn, notching one game in a 1-6, 0-6 defeat. In singles play, Green fell 2-6, 1-6 against Barth at the No. 1 court and Winters conceded a 3-6, 2-6 defeat against Chris Ochoa at the No. 2 court.
Mortensen took one game in a 1-6, 0-6 loss to Olvera at the No. 3 court and Sergeant notched two games in a 1-6, 1-6 loss to Ahearn at the No. 4 court. Eckardt hung tough at the No. 5 court, winning six total games in a 2-6 , 4-6 loss against Andrew Ochoa. Sophomore Amor Lara rounded out the singles lineup for the Hubs, falling 0-6, 1-6 against Lindenborn at the No. 6 court.
