The Rochelle Hub track and field team shined in the Gary Egler Invitational at Sycamore High School on Wednesday. The varsity team finished fifth out of 12 schools with 28 points while the fresh-soph team took third out of 12 schools with 58 points. The Hubs will compete alongside the Lady Hubs at the Sterling Warrior Invitational on Saturday, March 19.

Fresh-soph boys take third in indoor meet at Sycamore HS

SYCAMORE — The Rochelle Hub track and field team shined in the Gary Egler Invitational at Sycamore High School on Wednesday. The varsity team finished fifth out of 12 schools with 28 points while the fresh-soph team took third out of 12 schools with 58 points. The Hubs will compete alongside the Lady Hubs at the Sterling Warrior Invitational on Saturday, March 19.

Senior Zach Sanford led the Hubs in the field events, winning the shot put with a distance of 13.38 meters. Senior Ryan Simmons took third in the high jump with a clearance of 1.73 meters and junior Hayden Inman finished fifth in the pole vault with a personal-record clearance of 2.75 meters. Junior Trey Taft placed sixth in the triple jump with a distance of 10.95 meters.

Rochelle’s Josue Huerta, Hayden Smith, Thomas Koziol and Wade Smith teamed up to take fifth in the 3200-meter run with a time of 10:46.11. The Hubs finished fourth in the 640-meter relay with a time of 1:22.65 behind Ethan Wells, Taft, Simmons and Griffin Ohlinger. Junior Ethan Bergeson placed fifth in the 55-meter hurdles with a personal-record time of 9.72 seconds.

Koziol finished ninth in the 1600-meter run with a time of 6:01.58 and Ohlinger took sixth in the 200-meter dash with a time of 25.91. Rochelle runners Luke Orlikowski, Taft, Wells and Smith combined to place seventh in the 1600-meter relay with a time of 4:29.59.

Sophomore Eli Luxton won the high jump competition with a personal-record clearance of 1.62 meters. Sophomore Carlos Tomas took third in the shot put with a distance of 11.30 meters and freshman Kenny Overton took third in the pole vault with a clearance of 2.15 meters. Sophomore Nathan Sergeant placed second in the triple jump with a distance of 9.80 meters.

Rochelle runners Abel Huerta, Chris Hickey, Alexavier Villatoro and Alex Burke teamed up for fifth in the 3200-meter run with a time of 10:34.61. The Hub team of Irving Escalante, Sergeant, Jackson Smith and Luxton won the 640-meter relay with a time of 1:25.66. Freshman Anlun Meyers placed sixth in the 400-meter dash with a personal-record time of 1:04.48.

Burke took sixth in the 1600-meter run with a time of 5:45.48 and freshman Jack Tilton finished ninth in the 200-meter dash with a time of 29.80 seconds. The Hubs placed third in the 1600-meter relay with a time of 4:08.19 behind Escalante, Sergeant, Smith and Luxton.
