Rochelle – Following an increase in required chlorination levels in Illinois drinking water supplies by the Illinois Environmental Protection, Rochelle Municipal Utilities will increase from the previous .5 milligrams per liter to 1 milligram per liter. The regulations are part of an effort to decrease the frequency of Legionnaire’s Disease, a pneumonia-like condition. The previous standards were adopted in the 1980s.
As a result of the increased chlorination, residents may notice a chlorine-odor in the water.
