City awards Newkirk & Associates with facade grant

ROCHELLE — The City of Rochelle presented a $3,100 check Friday to Newkirk & Associates Owner Bill Newkirk as part of its facade grant program.

The program covers half the cost of any improvements made to business fronts in town. The certified public accounting firm is the most recent recipient. Newkirk said improvements included new insulated and energy-efficient windows and a door.

“It's a good update to the building,” Newkirk said. “The building's bones are great but it's 120 years old. Just things like that needed updating and we were very glad the city was willing to help out with that and pick up part of the tab.”

Rochelle Mayor John Bearrows said the program is more of a reward for businesses that invest their own money to make their businesses and the city look better.

“It reflects on our entire community as far as people that do this kind of work,” Bearrows said. “The whole area looks much better. And it's an encouragement program. Thanks to our community development group and working on this program to follow up with it, people make the applications and we encourage folks to do more and hope it continues on.”
