Continuing Education classes for Licensed Massage Therapists offered at Kishwaukee College this fall

MALTA — Kishwaukee College is proud to offer multiple continuing education classes for Licensed Massage Therapists (LMTs) this fall. Courses are designed to expand the skill and knowledge of current LMTs. All classes are can be used towards continuing education unit (CEU) requirement for license renewal through the Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation.
Essential Oil Therapy: Aug. 26, 9 a.m. – 12 p.m. or 6 p.m. – 9 p.m.
Learn therapeutic uses of plant-derived essential oils including research, benefits, risks and precautions. Participants will also learn about Aromatherapy and appropriate use of various oils. ($30, 3 CEUs)
Dry Brush Massage: Aug. 27, 9 a.m. – 12 p.m. or 6 p.m. – 9 p.m.
Dry brushing is an effective way to stimulate the lymphatic system and take care of the skin. Participants will learn proper procedures, techniques, pressure and disinfection for dry brush massage. ($30, 3 CEUs)

Reflexology: Oct. 1, 15, and 29, 9 a.m. – 12 p.m. or 6 p.m. – 9 p.m.
Reflexology is the application of appropriate pressure to specific points and areas of the body. This 3-day class will cover how and why reflexology works, proper positioning of the client, effective use of thumb and fingers to apply pressure, and an in-depth study of the foot architecture. Participants will also learn a step-by-step reflexology protocol to use with their clients. ($90, 9 CEUs)
Forearm Massage Techniques: Prone & Supine: Nov. 4, 9 a.m. – 12 p.m. or 6 p.m. – 9 p.m.
Massage therapists do not need to rely only on their hands to administer massage. This class will cover practical application of the use of forearms during massage with an emphasis on proper body mechanics. ($30, 3 CEUs)
Side-Lying Position Massage: Not Just for Prenatal: Nov. 5, 9 a.m. – 12 p.m. or 6 p.m. – 9 p.m.
Learn how to customize a massage that works for all bodies and abilities. Discover how to make side-lying a go-to position during a massage session. ($30, 3 CEUs)
The class instructor, Julie Gavin-Freeman, LMT, BCTMB, I-AYT is a highly trained instructor and practitioner with strong clinical abilities and a successful career in massage therapy, educational institutions, and medical facilities.
