Cote named Remarkable Resident

Posted

ROCHELLE — Longtime Rochelle resident and WWII veteran Bert Cote was honored and thanked for his service by the City of Rochelle, during the council’s monthly board meeting Monday.
Cote received the Remarkable Resident award at Monday night’s Rochelle City Council meeting. He was presented with a plaque. He was also thanked for his service in the second World War.
Cote served in the Second Armored Division in Germany from 1941 to 1946 under the control of generals Patton and Grant. All seven of his mother’s sons and three of her son-in-laws served during the war. All returned safely from the war except his brother, Robert Cote, who was killed in action when the Wasp (Navy) ship was sunk; he was 21 years old at the time. Cote said that he is very thankful for his friends, the award and most importantly returning home safely.
“I thank God for my return and my friends for being such great friends to me, as well as for this wonderful award. God bless them all,” said Cote.
