OREGON – The Four Rivers Chapter of Ducks Unlimited will hold its second annual banquet at the Rock River Center of Oregon on Saturday, Feb. 29 at 5 p.m.
“The Ducks Unlimited success story,” said Chapter Chairman Pete Oliver, “is one that makes me proud to be a volunteer. Local Ducks Unlimited fundraising events held throughout the country last year contributed $66 million towards Ducks Unlimited’s Rescue our Wetlands campaign. But what is even more important to realize is that this national fundraising total must increase this year if the North American waterfowl habitat race is to be won.”
Each year, the United States loses some 100,000 acres of wetland habitat. Since its inception, Ducks Unlimited has raised over $5 billion and enhanced, restored, or protected over 191 million acres of wetland habitat, collectively an area greater than the State of Texas. Projects funded by DU provide habitat for over 900 wildlife species, including waterfowl, river otters, sandhill cranes and numerous species of songbirds.
While Ducks Unlimited has accomplished a great deal since its founding in 1937, the rapid draining of our wetlands demands that the organization continue to accelerate its work. Efforts like those of the Four Rivers Chapter are a vital part of Ducks Unlimited’s efforts.
