ASHTON — Elizabeth “Susie” Ann Dean, 84, of Ashton, IL passed away Friday, March 14, 2025 at Allure of Mendota nursing home in Mendota, IL after a lengthy illness.

Susie was born on May 14, 1940 to George T. and Ila (Thelo) Wixom in Mendota, IL. She attended Mendota schools and graduated from MHS class of 1958. Susie worked for GTE in Mendota for many years and Rochelle when GTE moved there. Susie met and married Ron Dean on September 15, 1973, spending over 50 years together.

She was a member of Ashton United Methodist Church for over 50 years.  Susie enjoyed reading numerous books a week.  Ron always made sure she was well stocked with books.  She enjoyed knitting and crocheting, making afghans for the grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Susie is survived by her son, Jeff (Teri) Spitz of Sublette, IL; three grandchildren: Cory (Julie) Spitz of Mendota, IL, Erin (fiancé, Jake) Spitz of Dixon, IL and Dallas (girlfriend, Allyssa) Spitz of Sublette, IL; five great grandchildren: Carmen, Piper, Liam, Bennett and Bentley; her brother, George (Ruth) Wixom of Mendota, IL; brother-in-law, Norm Dean of Winnebago, IL; sister-in-law, Nancy (John) Woodin of Cincinnati, OH; many nieces and nephews, cousins and many great friends.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Ron, on June 9, 2024; grandson, Tyler Spitz and sister-in-law, Melanie.

The family would like to thank the staff of Stonecroft Village, Allure Nursing Home and the Unity Hospice care team for their wonderful care of Susie.

The visitation will be from 9:00 - 10:30 A.M., Tuesday, March 18, 2025 at the Ashton United Methodist Church, 906 Richardson Ave., Ashton, IL. The service will follow at 10:30 A.M., Tuesday with Pastor Jan Shaulis officiating.  The burial will be at Ashton Cemetery.
