Evangeline ‘Angie’ Agnos

ROCHELLE — Evangeline “Angie” Agnos, 89, passed away peacefully at her home in Rochelle on Monday, December 16, 2024 with her family by her side.  Angie was born on December 15, 1935, the daughter of Spiro and Stamata (Glenis) Stavrakas in DeKalb, IL.  

Angie was the 1953 Rochelle Township High School Homecoming Queen, and in her younger years enjoyed doing all kinds of crafts.  She worked as the food service administrator for Northern Illinois University for many years.  Angie also enjoyed traveling, going into Chicago to spend time with her friends, and she loved her time spent with her family especially her grandchildren.  She was active with her church, St. George Greek Orthodox Church in DeKalb.

In addition to her parents, Angie is preceded in death by her son, Michael, on November 27, 1990, her sister, Helen Poulos, brother-in-law, Bill Poulos and sister-in-law, Judy Stavrakas.

Angie is survived by her two sons: Peter N. Agnos of Rochelle and Gregory N. Agnos of Tempe, AZ; her brother, Paul Stavrakas of Rochelle; nephews and nieces: Stephanie (Michael) Teta, Cindy (Tom) Bemister, Debbie (Michael) Korompilas, Scott (Rose) Stavrakas, Dawn (Joe) Peters and Lisa Stavrakas; granddaughter, Jobina (Aaron) Smith; four great grandchildren: Nicholas, Peter, Ethan and Gregory; and many great nieces, nephews and special friend, DeWayne Adams of Davis Junction, IL.

The visitation will be from 10:00 - 11:00 A.M., Saturday, December 28, 2024 at St. George Greek Orthodox Church,  320 S. 2nd St., DeKalb.  The funeral service will be held at 11:00 A.M., Saturday with Father Nicholas W. Jonas officiating.  The burial will follow the service at Fairview Park Cemetery in DeKalb.  In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Angie’s memory to St. George Greek Orthodox Church.  Visit www.ungerhorner.com to sign the online guest book.
