EUREKA — Evelyn Marie Bearrows, a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and cherished friend, passed away peacefully on March 14, 2025 at the age of 95, at the Apostolic Christian Home in Eureka, Illinois, surrounded by her family and special care givers. Evie was known for her loving and kind nature, and as a person who valued and cared for her family and friends alike. She was proud of her family and loved to spend time with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She cherished her friends as well, staying close to her dear friends in the ‘card club’ over many years. Evie also enjoyed gardening and cooking, and her pies were well-known at gatherings with friends and family. She always looked forward to spending part of her summer with her family in northern Wisconsin, taking that first road trip to the Northwoods in 1959 and continuing every summer since.
Evie was born on November 1, 1929 in Ashton, Illinois, to Jurgen U. and Mary C. (Huhr) Greenfield, and was the youngest of nine children. Evie graduated from Ashton High School in 1947. On July 7, 1950, she married Robert E. Bearrows in Rochelle, IL, and they resided in Flagg Center and later Rochelle. She was preceded in death by Robert “Bob” in 2011, her husband of 61 years. In addition to her husband and parents, she was predeceased by her six brothers: Wilber, Elmer, Bob, Paul, Raymond and Hank Greenfield and two sisters: Ella Neckel and Elizabeth Parsley.
Evie was a homemaker, raising her five children, and later working outside the home for the City of Rochelle for over twenty years. She was a devoted member of St. Paul Lutheran Church and a strong supporter of St. Paul Lutheran School as well.
Evie loved her family, and was always there with a listening ear and a warm touch and embrace. She was a devoted mother, loving grandmother and great-grandmother, and she will be profoundly missed by everyone who knew her. Survivors include her daughter: Melinda (Tim) Kaufman of Metamora, IL; her sons: Thomas (Holly Hirst) Bearrows of River Forest, IL, Patrick (Sharon) Bearrows of Sycamore, Il, Jeffrey (Pamela) Bearrows of Dallas, TX and Michael (Beth Kucera) Bearrows of Cedar Rapids, IA; and sister-in-law, Nancy Krahenbuhl-Walters of Rochelle. She was a wonderful and loving grandmother to: Elli (Joseph) Barrow, Paige (Riley) Frenette, Margaret (Jonah) Jelinski, Peter (Veronica) Kaufman, Alison (Frank) Anderson, Harry Bearrows, Brett Bearrows, Sara (Tom Fernandez) Bearrows, Shelby (Alex Brown) Bearrows, and proud great-grandmother to Isabella Anderson, Emory Anderson and Henry Lockard.
A visitation will be held on Saturday, March 22, 2025 from 10:00 -11:00 A.M. at St. Paul Lutheran Church, 1415 10th Ave., Rochelle, Illinois.
