Flagg Township Museum decorating is Nov. 30

ROCHELLE – ‘Tis the season and the museum is getting in the spirit of the holiday. On Saturday, Nov. 30 stop in any time between 11 a.m. and 4 p.m. to help decorate the museum. Visitors can add a loop to our paper chain that has grown every year and now goes around four rooms. Our goal is to have it in all five rooms on the main floor. Last year was the first year for our White House Ornament tree and this year visitors can help by adding White House ornaments from our collection to decorate this tree. Other trees on display include a tree of soft holiday toys and one filled with nutcracker ornaments. The museum is also part of Rochelle’s Small Business Saturday on Nov. 30 so be sure to stop by for our secret word and to receive a token gift.

Our Cabinet of Curiosities is filled with holiday tea sets. Santas, snowmen, holly, poinsettias and more are all part of the exhibit. We are grateful to Christine Hawkins of Lindenwood for sharing her collection for the holidays. Stop in and “Have a Cup… of Holiday Cheer” while you admire our exhibit.

Visiting with Santa is something every child looks forward to and Mr. and Mrs. Claus will be at the museum from 4-7 p.m. during the Christmas Walk on Friday, Dec. 6. If you’ve visited with Santa at the museum before you might see your photo on our slide show that we play on our flat screen TVs. Toast your toes or a marshmallow for a s’more at the bonfire on the front lawn of the museum and catch a ride on the horse drawn wagon also outside the museum front door. New this year is Courtney’s Lights and Creations with a variety of holiday items for sale on the front lawn of the museum.

The mission of the Flagg Township Historical Society and Museum is to stimulate interest in Flagg Township history through education, research, collection and preservation of information for the benefit of the public of today and in the future.
