PLAINFIELD — Sophomore Keegan Cathina rushed for five touchdowns on Friday evening, when the Rochelle Hub fresh-soph football team took on Plainfield South in a nonconference matchup.
Cathina ran for three scores in the first half, reaching the end zone on 45, 3 and 25-yard rushes to help the Hubs take a 30-15 halftime lead. Cathina added 60 and 9-yard scoring runs in the second half for the Hubs, who cruised over the Cougars for a 53-21 victory. Rochelle (6-1, 2-0 Interstate 8) will conclude its fresh-soph season with a home game against Durand on Monday at 5:30 p.m.
Sophomore Bobby Tourdot delivered a big play on special teams early in the game, recovering a fumbled kickoff return for a touchdown to put Rochelle ahead 14-7. Sophomore Tyler Gensler recorded six tackles and ran for a 30-yard touchdown in the second half. Sophomores Brody Bruns and Angel Argueta each recorded sacks on defense, with Argueta forcing a fumble that freshman teammate Levi McGee recovered for the Hubs.
Sophomore Jonathan Andrist added a second-half interception to aid the Rochelle defense, which saw sophomores Chris O'Neil and Aiden Carmichael each record TFLs in the win. Sophomore German Albertson also forced a fumble for the Hubs on Friday night.
