ROCHELLE — Gerald J. Kersten, 81, of Rochelle, passed away peacefully on Aug. 9, 2020.
Gerald (Jerry), born on July 22, 1939, was a loving husband, father and grandfather. He farmed all of his life in Ashton and was a member of the Reynolds Township Board. He also served as an Elder of his church.
Jerry is survived by his wife, Lynn E. Kersten, who celebrated their 55th anniversary on July 25, 2020, as well as his three sons, Bradley, Brian and Eric (Stephanie) Kersten. Jerry was the grandfather of Haley (Cody Brill), Kelsey, Madison and Elias Kersten and additionally had three great-grandchildren, Kayson, Colten and Mia.
He is proceeded in death by his parents, Elmer and Florence (Gonnerman) Kersten, and his sister Shirley (Kersten) Sgro.
A graveside service will be held Friday, Aug. 14 at 11 a.m. at the Ashton Cemetery for anyone that would like to attend.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been set up at Kreider Services in Dixon which currently provides care for Jerry and Lynn’s middle son, Brian.
Jerry was a blessing to all he encountered, brought life and humor into any room, and will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
