DIXON — The Lady Hubs pieced together their best offensive performance of the KSB Dixon Holiday Classic on Saturday, but it wasn’t enough to overcome an early deficit against Oregon.
The Hawks controlled the first three quarters of the consolation game, and although Rochelle rallied for 20 points in the fourth quarter, the Lady Hubs were unable to complete the comeback, falling 62-51 and dropping to 3-13 overall. Josie Lundquist led Rochelle with 15 points and six rebounds, while Sofia Lenkaitis added 11 points and Abby Luxton totaled seven rebounds.
“We switched from our zone defense to our man-to-man defense late in the game so we could apply pressure on Oregon,” head coach Tony Rowan said. “We forced a lot of live-ball turnovers and we were able to convert those turnovers into easy buckets. Oregon knocked down 3-pointers throughout the game, and they had a couple different shooters who made shots at different spots on the floor. They got to the free-throw line and made their shots.”
Oregon started the game on the right foot, outscoring Rochelle 17-9 over the first quarter before controlling the third quarter 19-12. The Lady Hubs entered Saturday averaging only 31.3 points per game for the tournament, and despite shooting under 30 percent from the field against the Hawks, eight players scored at least one point. Rochelle finished 0-4 in the tournament.
“We dug ourselves a hole early in the game,” Rowan said. “The 20-point quarter was huge for us though, and hopefully we can do that more often as the season moves forward. It really comes down to our aggressiveness. When we’re aggressive and focused, we can be a dangerous team. If we can string those two things together, we’ll be in good shape.”
