ROCHELLE — The Rochelle Lady Hub varsity bowling team turned in one of its strongest performances of the season on Wednesday, when Rochelle hosted LaSalle-Peru for its annual Senior Night match. The Lady Hubs celebrated four seniors including Alyssa Mickley, Anna Samo, Carly Summers and Zoe Rourke.
After shooting a season-best 983 game and 2,730 series during its road victory against Kaneland on Tuesday, Rochelle returned home on Wednesday and set the bar even higher, setting new season-high team game and series scores in a 3,179-2,757 loss to the Cavaliers. Mickley rolled a team-best 549 series for the Lady Hubs (6-9, 4-5 Interstate 8), while freshman Cassidy Vincent followed with a 510 series score.
“It was a bittersweet moment but I’m happy for our seniors,” head coach Eric Widick said. “I’ve only had the chance to work with three of the seniors for one year and I worked with Carly for two years. I hate to see them go but we’ve had a lot of fun together. I’m really excited about where our team stands right now. We’ve really started bowling together over the last three meets and with our recent performances, I think we have a chance to not only finish third or higher in the conference, but advance beyond the regional.”
LaSalle-Peru claimed the first game 1,067-889, with Isabella Weber and Olivia Weber each shooting 226 for the Cavaliers. Samo led the Lady Hubs with 187 in the first game, while Vincent scored 167 and Mickley totaled 160. LaSalle-Peru extended its lead in the second game, winning 1,124-853 behind Olivia Weber’s 209 and Isabella Weber’s 203. Mickley rolled 191 and sophomore Faith Adams fired 183 for Rochelle.
Despite losing the overall series, Rochelle compiled its best team game of the season to close out the match, edging LaSalle-Peru 1,015-988 in the third game. Vincent spearheaded the charge for the Lady Hubs, shooting a series-high 226 while Mickley followed with 198 and Samo recorded 165. Samo ended the match with a 463 series and Adams finished with a 488 series after rolling 155 in the third game.
“Our girls realized tonight that they’re capable of winning and I’m looking forward to the remainder of the season,” Widick said. “It’s important that our girls continue to talk with each other on the lanes, especially when one of them struggles. We’re bowling great as a team right now and when one or two of our girls struggle, we’ve had other girls step up. If we can get all of the girls lined up, I think we’ll do very well.”
