ROCHELLE — Senior Cassidy Vincent earned the spotlight one final time at T-Byrd Lanes on Thursday, when the Rochelle Lady Hubs welcomed Oregon for their Senior Night varsity bowling match. A four-year member of the RTHS bowling program, Vincent was honored during a brief ceremony before the match, receiving gifts and flowers from teammates and coaches.

“It’s been a pleasure to coach her,” head coach Eric Widick said. “She’s someone who works very hard, she isn’t afraid and she wants to help the other bowlers when they’re struggling. She’s definitely been a big asset to our program and she’s almost become a second coach when we’re working in practice. She’s been a big asset for us and she’ll be sorely missed.”

Fittingly, Vincent rolled the highest series of the match on Thursday, shooting a 566 as the Lady Hubs fell to the Hawks 2,544-2,412 in nonconference action. It was the final regular season match for the Lady Hubs (4-12, 3-7 Interstate 8), who competed without two of their varsity starters. Rochelle will head west for the IHSA Dixon Regional at Plum Hollow Lanes on Friday.

“If the girls support each other, I think we can do alright,” said Widick, whose team bowled at Plum Hollow Lanes for the Dixon Invitational last weekend. “We had some ups and downs last weekend, but if we can keep the girls even-keeled, they can stay there and move back up.”

Oregon took the opening game on Thursday, topping the Lady Hubs 836-771 despite a 177 from Vincent, who led all players. The senior again finished atop the scoreboard during the second game, throwing a series-best 196 as Rochelle fell to the Hawks 924-819. Savannah Nagy launched a 180 and Carli Baily landed three pins behind with a 177 on the Oregon side.

“Other than one or two meets over the last few weeks, Cassidy’s been set and ready to go,” Widick said. “She’ll build up and drop back down, but I think that fuels her fire to build back up. She’s been on an upswing and I think her chances to make it to sectionals are very good.”

Despite failing to secure the series victory, Rochelle finished strong in the third game, beating the Hawks 822-784 behind a 193 from Vincent and a 167 from junior Kylie McCullough, who totaled a 420 series in the match. Sophomore Ava Norris pitched in a 376 series with a high score of 137, while freshman Mia Villavicencio added a 363 series and a high score of 127.
