DEKALB — Junior Alyssa Schwanert entered the Interstate 8 Conference Championship tournament ranked fifth in conference points during the regular season. While the Lady Hubs only fielded three bowlers on Saturday, Schwanert led Rochelle with an 821 series and was named an All-Conference First Team bowler for the first time in her high school career.
“I was beyond proud of myself when I heard I earned All-Conference honors,” Schwanert said. “I had a pretty rough season this year and it felt amazing to know my hard work paid off… I hope that next year, I can get my ball speed up and continue staying behind the ball.”
Rochelle finished fifth in the conference meet, knocking down 2,223 pins across six games of tournament play. Freshman Faith Adams recorded a 781 series and a high score of 142 for the Lady Hubs, while junior Carly Summers added 621 and a high score of 139. Schwanert’s 821 series included high scores of 164 and 162. The Lady Hubs were without senior Kiya Porter. Schwanert will be one of three bowlers eligible to return to the varsity team next season.
“I picked up a bad habit of turning my wrist this season, so I definitely had to work on staying behind the ball,” Schwanert said. “I finally fixed that habit toward the end of the season and I was happy about that. Our team usually gets down after bad days, so I hope we can work on seeing more positives and having more fun next season. I’m hoping to see my average go up.”
