STERLING — Junior Kylie McCullough and senior Cassidy Vincent took home medalist honors on Monday afternoon, when the duo earned high series and high game honors to lead the Rochelle Lady Hub varsity bowlers during the Sterling MLK Invitational at Blackhawk Lanes.

Vincent finished second overall with a 1,256 series, while McCullough landed in fifth with an 1,146 series for the Lady Hubs, who placed sixth out of eight schools with a final count of 4,587. Vincent also took first overall for her high score of 268, which she bowled in the fourth game.

“It’s another one of those places where I knew that, as long as I stayed in good spirits and kept my repetition up, then I would be in a good place,” said Vincent, who won the Sterling MLK Invitational with a 1,306 series during her junior season. “I found a spot that conveniently worked for me and the repetition felt so smooth that I didn’t have to think about anything. The team was definitely up in spirits, so I think that chanting for each other played a big part.”

Vincent shot a 594 series during the morning session, logging scores of 226 and 202 over her first and second games. The senior surged up the tournament standings with a 662 series in the afternoon, firing her 268 before bowing out with 193 and 201 over the fifth and sixth games.

“I knew that my spare shooting would be good and I knew from Saturday’s tournament that I could hit my mark,” said Vincent, who medaled in third with a 1,241 series at the Charles Butterfield Invitational over the weekend. “I knew that, as long as I stayed in the right place mentally and focused a little bit more, I would be in a good place at the end of the day.”

McCullough opened the tournament with a 528 series before stepping up with 618 series during the afternoon session, where the junior posted scores of 200, 215 and 203. Sophomore Magaly Belmonte rolled an 858 series with a high score of 161, while sophomore Ava Norris added a 719 series with a high score of 144.

“It was a really big confidence booster,” McCullough said. “Everyone was staying positive and keeping each other up. Everything was working for me, even when I switched balls.”

Sophomore Karina Valdez totaled a 608 series and a high score of 127 to round out the varsity lineup for the Lady Hubs (2-8, 1-4 Interstate 8) on Monday. Rochelle will return to the lanes with a conference match against Morris on Thursday at T-Byrd Lanes.
