MORRIS — Cassidy Vincent was a sophomore the last time she competed in the Charles Butterfield Invitational at Echo Lanes in Morris, where she rolled a 1,063 series to lead the Rochelle Lady Hub varsity bowling team. Now a senior, Vincent improved her series score by almost 200 pins at this year’s tournament, shooting a 1,241 to medal in third place overall.
Vincent opened the tournament with a 665 series during the morning session, shooting scores of 235, 247 and 183. The senior bowed out with a 576 series, including 201 and 203 over her final two games, to lead the Lady Hubs to 12th out of 20 schools with a final count of 4,330.
“It’s an overwhelming feeling,” Vincent said. “When I was an underclassman, I wasn’t taking the sport seriously yet and I didn’t realize how much passion I had for bowling until last year. This year, I was able to perform the way I knew I could and I was able to keep a positive attitude.”
Saturday’s tournament performance was a memorable one for Vincent, who fired the first 600 series of her career at Echo Lanes. Vincent, who has bowled two more 600 series scores at Echo Lanes since the end of her sophomore year, said she felt confident entering the meet.
“I knew I could be successful at that house,” Vincent said. “It was just a matter of maintaining that energy all day long… I was really consistent on Saturday and I kept those repetitions up throughout the day, which made it a lot easier for me. Everything fell into place from there.”
Junior Kylie McCullough rolled a 957 series with a high score of 185, while sophomore Magaly Belmonte added a 796 series with a high score of 181. Sophomore Chloe Rodriguez totaled a 732 series with a high score of 201 for the Lady Hubs (2-8, 1-4 Interstate 8), who returned to the lanes for the annual Sterling MLK Invitational at Blackhawk Lanes on Monday afternoon.
