OREGON — Senior midfielders Emma Kennay and Makayla Lara each scored second-half goals as the Rochelle Lady Hubs looked to mount a comeback during their varsity nonconference match against Oregon on Saturday.
Trailing 2-0 at halftime, Rochelle brought the Hawks within one midway through the second half, when Kennay converted an assist from senior forward Jeanette Valle during the 63rd minute. Needing an equalizer to tie the match, Rochelle scored in the 77th minute, when Lara cashed in an assist from senior defender Betty Flores.
But a game-winning goal from the Hawks, who scored in the 80th and final minute of regulation time, allowed Oregon (12-6-1, 5-3 Big Northern) to escape with a 3-2 victory over Rochelle. Sophomore goalkeeper Yana Bartkiv posted a season-high 17 saves for the Lady Hubs (8-15, 2-8 Interstate 8), who will host their Senior Night match against Rockford Auburn on Wednesday at 4:30 p.m.
