ROCHELLE — Junior Merit-Namaste Rose brought home the lone victory for the Rochelle Lady Hub varsity tennis team during Wednesday’s Interstate 8 Conference match with LaSalle-Peru.
Namaste-Rose took the court in singles, defeating Cavalier netter Phoebe Shetterly 6-4, 6-3 in the No. 6 match. The win allowed Rochelle to avoid the shutout in its 8-1 loss to the Cavaliers. The Lady Hubs (4-11, 1-4 Interstate 8) will host Princeton in nonconference action on Thursday.
The match began with doubles play, where LaSalle-Peru claimed all three points. Seniors Sydney Carmichael and Natalie Wagner went three sets against Stacie Albiter and Meredith Politsch at the No. 3 court, falling just short in a 6-4, 0-6, 5-10 defeat. Seniors Lauren Dyer and Abby Metzger played a close second set in their 3-6, 5-7 loss to Raleigh Leininger and Kylee Halm at the No. 2 court, while seniors Catherine Williams and Erin Murphy nearly took the opening set of their 5-7, 3-6 loss against Cali Mickley and Elena Leone at the No. 1 court.
In singles, LaSalle-Peru won five of the six matches. Senior Yaretzi Villalobos hung tough in her 3-6, 2-6 loss to Dagny Greer at the No. 5 court, while Catherine Williams took three games during her 1-6, 2-6 loss to Eva Cervantes at the No. 1 court. Erin Murphy fell 2-6, 0-6 against Grace Pecchio at the No. 2 court and both Abby Metzger and Lauren Dyer conceded shutouts, falling 0-6, 0-6 against Izzy Pecchio and Haylee Panarcic at the No. 3 and No. 4 courts.
