ROCHELLE — Rochelle Township High School senior Sawyer McGee was recognized by the Illinois High School Tennis Coaches Association as a finalist for the Tom Pitchford Memorial Sportsmanship Award this season.
The award highlights student-athletes across the state each year who display outstanding sportsmanship throughout the tennis season. A three-year member of the Lady Hub tennis program, McGee led the varsity team to a six-win season and a third-place finish in the IHSA 1A Rochelle Sectional during the fall. McGee also medaled in the sectional doubles tournament.
“I was very excited when I learned I had won this award,” McGee said. “I was thankful to be considered for the award. It’s a huge honor to even be thought of for the award and I’m grateful to be a finalist.”
