The Rochelle girls track and field team laced up for its season-opening performance at the Sycamore Invitational on Tuesday. The varsity Lady Hubs finished fifth out of 10 schools with 57 points, while the junior varsity girls tied for sixth with 35 points.

Girls Track: Lady Hubs open with fifth-place finish at Sycamore Invitational

SYCAMORE — The Rochelle girls track and field team laced up for its season-opening performance at the Sycamore Invitational on Tuesday. The varsity Lady Hubs finished fifth out of 10 schools with 57 points, while the junior varsity girls tied for sixth with 35 points.

Senior Emma Smith placed second in the 400-meter dash with a time of 1:08.22, and Smith finished fourth in the high jump with a clearance of 1.37 meters. Senior Britney Baez led Rochelle in the distance events, taking second in the 3200-meter run with a time of 13:58.09 and sixth in the 1600-meter run with a time of 6:39.61.

Rochelle’s 1600-meter relay team (Smith, Angie Saldana, Rylee Jackson and Teagan Meyers) placed third with a time of 4:49.13. Junior Afi Gati set a personal record in the shot put, finishing third with a mark of 10.51 meters while senior teammate Gabrielle Harding took fourth with a mark of 10.26 meters. Meyers placed third in the high jump with a clearance of 1.47 meters.

Senior Maddie Ohlinger took third in the triple jump with a mark of 9.42 meters, and Meyers finished fourth with a mark of 8.84 meters. Saldana placed fifth in the 200-meter dash with a time of 30.62 seconds and ninth in the 55-meter dash with a time of 8.49 seconds. Rochelle’s 640-meter relay team finished fifth with a time of 1:36.69. The Lady Hubs will next compete in the Byron Invitational on Saturday.

JV

Freshman Nicole Jorgensen won the 55-meter hurdles with a time of 11.50 seconds, bringing home Rochelle’s only event victory of the afternoon. Jorgensen also placed fifth in the 200-meter dash with a time of 31.68 seconds. Freshman Baylie Sutton took second in the long jump with a mark of 4.17 seconds and third in the triple jump with a mark of 7.88 meters.

Senior Breanna Heisner placed third in the shot put with a mark of 9.02 meters, and freshman Yuelma Ortiz finished fifth in the 1600-meter run with a time of 6:57.84. Rochelle’s 640-meter relay team (Shannon Harding, Adriannah Davis-Carter, Adeline Morrissette and Jorgensen) took sixth with a time of 1:44.47.
