ROCHELLE — Hermilo Menchaca Torres, 88, passed away Wednesday, December 25, 2024 at Serenity Hospice and Home in Oregon, Illinois surrounded by family. Hermilo was born on January 17, 1936 to Gregorio and Brigida (Menchaca) Torres in Ojo Caliente Sante Maria Del Rio San Luis Potosi, Mexico. He worked for the Chicago and Northwestern Railway for many years.
Hermilo volunteered at the Rochelle Senior Center. He enjoyed watching wrestling, traveling and exercising. He was not one to sit around much, therefore, he was always working on some sort of a project. Hermilo loved spending time with his family.
Hermilo is survived by his eight children: Rosa (Reginald) Givens, Marisol (Kevin) Luxton, Hermilo Torres, Jr., Adrian (Diana) Torres, Jessica (Jorge) Ortiz, Ema (Andrew) Bauer, Sandra (Joseph) Moore and Amanda Brake; one brother, Castula Menchaca Torres; one sister, Isidia Menchaca Torres; 15 grandchildren; two great grandchildren; and several loving nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Belen Torres; nephew, Greg Torres; and two brothers and two sisters.
The visitation will be from 2:00 - 4:00 P.M., Sunday, December 29, 2024 at the Unger-Horner Funeral Home, 400 N. 6th St., Rochelle. There will be a private family funeral mass at St. Patrick Catholic Church. Burial will follow the service at St. Patrick Cemetery in Rochelle. Visit www.ungerhorner.com to sign the online guest book.
