HILLCREST — Following an executive session, Village of Hillcrest trustees approved the appointing of Patty Moreno as the new village treasurer following the resignation of Penny Payton a couple weeks ago.

Moreno served as the village clerk previously, and will become the treasurer immediately. There was also discussion on searching for a new clerk to fill the empty position, although no decision has been made at this time.

Village of Hillcrest officials approved a few items during their meeting Wednesday evening, beginning with the purchase of a portable hydrant flusher at a cost of a little over $2,400. The battery operated flusher can be set up on a timer and moved where needed.

Village president Steve Dodson said although there hasn’t been any rust water issues as of late, there will be a scheduled hydrant flushing on Mon., Oct. 2. Residents are reminded to avoid washing light colored clothing during hydrant flushing.

Board members approved installation of a drainage pipe on village property located on Linda Avenue and Windover Park Drive to facilitate removal of water backing up onto private property. The estimate for $2,000 includes 200 linear feet to be installed.

Trustees also approved the appropriations budget from Jul. 1, 2017 to Jun. 30, 2018 for $866,213.

Dodson also reported efforts are continuing to remove abandoned vehicles around the village. Village attorney Paul Chadwick presented trustees with an electric easement ordinance to review. No action was taken on it at the meeting Wednesday.
